hello,
is it possible to get the 17.50 EPP plan without going on a contract?
if not, what is the cheapest plan to keep my account active while out of the country?
Thanks.

Very nice. Thanks for keeping us up to date.Originally Posted by DiamondElite
Looking at my plan in sig, it seems that I have all I'll ever need. There's really nothing that I need to add from retentions except for maybe unlimited local calling. I also learned that I have call forwarding ($10 Value Pack), even though I don't really need it.
The interesting thing is that I'm not getting charged SAF and 911 fee, yet I get access to the expanded network. At least I think I am.
Fido
$17.50 EPP (200 anytime minutes, Unlimited Evening and Weekends: 5pm to 8am) - $10 Credit
$10 Value Pack (Call ID, 2500 Text, and Voicemail)
$5 100 Long Distance Minutes
$30 6GB data
No SAF and 911
$52.50 + tax
Rogers
$17.50 (250 anytime minutes, Unlimited evenings and weekends: 6pm to 7am)
$10 Value Pack (Call ID, 2500 Text, and Voicemail)
$0 100 Long Distance Minutes
$10 Retention Flex Data
$5 6pm evening credit
GRRF
Total: $39 + tax
Maybe you should expose what's your needs and how much you ready to spend per month...I garantee you once you know more about the S-E T715a, 12MB won't be enough from your current Value Pack...
Tell us what you looking for and then you'll see what you can get...

I suppose I should have mentioned that I don't plan to use the S-E T715A, but I am giving that to my brother who's on prepaid Fido and only uses the phone for emergencies. Indeed, there's around $90 sitting on his prepaid. ^^; I picked it because it should work on the 3G 2100 frequency when I'm in Japan.
As for data, I pretty much only use it when I'm commuting. Mostly to check my email, some instant messaging and posts to LiveJournal. I barely use Facebook and I think it's useless to stream any video on a 2" screen. At home and at work I have access to Wi-Fi on my Nokia 5730. In addition to that, my SIM card is 2G only because the 3G cards don't work in my Softbank 811T. I suppose it would be pretty hard to hit 150MB of data a month if I'm not streaming any video?
I don't want to spend any more than $40 a month. In fact, if I could get it down to $30 a month that would be great because I don't use a lot of minutes. Not even 50 daytime minutes, average 150 minutes on F2F/R and under 200 SMS.
What particular features on the S-E T715A make you say that 12MB won't be enough though?

I called Retentions with an older plan that was the $45/month bundle (good at the time circa 2003) plus unlimited data, that was as follows:
45 minutes
100 LD
CID, Voicemail
Unlimited data (no longer offered)
for $45 + $50 (data) + SAF + 911
I had two objectives:
1. to separate the (now grandfathered) unlimited data to a new number so that I could both keep my existing number for voice (it's a second number but I still want to keep it) and use that data with an HSPA+ USB stick
2. generally pay less per month for the non-data (voice, etc) part of my plan
It turns out that I only met the second objective with big savings, but couldn't meet the first. The very helpful Retentions agent explains that I had a choice, because of how their systems work:
1. to get a new number for voice (but initially without the retentions offers, because it is a new line) and reduce my existing number to data only (thus meeting my 1st objective partially), but not my second, or
2. or to keep the voice and data together but get some signficant Retentions credits/reductions from what I have been paying.
He explained that the plans are tied to numbers and not lines. And, while I can change a number, they can't transfer numbers between two lines in an account. Does anyone know if there is in fact a workaround for this?
So, for the time being, I opted for reduced costs by almost $35/month as follows. (I also wanted to add some International SMS capability):
250 D/T minutes
Unlimited Inbound
Unlimited Rogers/Fido to Rogers/Fido
Unlimited Evenings (from 5pm)/Weekends
100 CDN LD Minutes
CallerID (no voicemail as I didn't want it)
10000 Sent SMS
25 Sent International SMS
$83.50 with $0 of GRRF/SAF/911 ($50 of that is the old unlimited data)
I'm very happy but would still like to find a way to segregate the data plan and keep my old number in a different voice plan.
To me the issues are both that Retentions looks more at individual lines and not the whole account and possibly a systems limitation at Fido/Rogers.
hi fritz, thanks for the info.Originally Posted by Fritz Z24

To answer your question, we'll need to know your current price plan & options...

Therefore you have to stick with one Fido number with a Voice & Data features into One...there's no way to split both...sorry.
