From that, you would like more daytime Minutes, Call Display/Name Display, SMS/MMS and spend less then 100,00$/Mth Taxes included right?

My only suggestion is to call and ask, but please, do not put any kind of expectation and don't be shock, surprised and/or insulted...Finally you can evaluate if it's worth or not...
Thanks for the comments. I guess when I go ahead with the phone call to Fido relations, I'll make sure my expectations are low.

What I'm really hoping for is a reduction in my monthly bill, with the same data and voice options, plus a minimal texting text plan. I'm fine with signing another 3-year agreement.

BTW, I had a new idea related to handsets and the signing of a new Fido agreement. I'm considering picking up a Fido 16GB iPhone 3GS for the standard price of $199. I would simply use it as a iPod, and for its WiFi functionality. I guess it would have to be activated on my account; that's fine by me. I simply won't use a SIM card in it. Will this scenario be allowed? That is, will I have to make a special request to not have iPhone specific options added to my account?

No problem! Good luck! You can have some expectations, the only thing is you looking for a monthly credit of around 35~40 Dollars/Month. It might be possible but propably really hard to get it...

As of the iPhone 32 GB 3Gs, I never use it without a Sim Card on a daily basis, it might work, however, the retail price is 799,00$... The pricing at 299,00$ is when a subscriber purchase it and add a Data Option of Min. Of 25,00$/Month on the top of the plan. However you can use your Fidodollars as an extra discount...

If you want the iPhone without a Data Option, the price listed is 499,00$ on a 3 year agreement...and it won't be possible to use your Fidodollars toward this price...I think you better use it as your primary phone then!

1.) Reducing cost of voice options:
When I first posted my question in this thread, I thought someone would inform me that there is a newer (either standard or retention) voice bundle that offers more and is less expensive than the old $45 bundle that I still have. However, it sounds like there is nothing better, since it has been only suggested that I ask for a discount. Before posting and reading in this thread, I did not know a discount could be requested. I am now more informed than before. Thanks.

2.) If my current 3-year agreement ends on January 15th, when am I allowed to sign a new 3-year agreement? Are there any limits?

3.) iPhone 16GB 3GS price and data options:

    - "As of the iPhone 32 GB 3Gs"
I was asking about the 16GB version of the 3GS, not the 32GB version. I guess the only difference this makes is in the price.

    - "The pricing at 299,00$ is when a subscriber purchase it and add a Data Option of Min. Of 25,00$/Month on the top of the plan."

Is this purely a pricing limitation/requirement (i.e. the 16GB 3GS is offered for $199 only (1) if you sign a 3-year agreement AND (2) if you opt for a new data plan), or is this due to a technical limitation, in that an iPhone-friendly data option must be used and the $50 unlimited plan (which I said previously I want to keep) is incompatible?

Maybe I should ask the question like this... Let's say I actually want to use the 16GB 3GS iPhone as my main handset with my current voice and data options. When I sign a new 3-year agreement, should I not be able to get it for $199, plus be able to use my FidoDollars? I don't know if or why this might matter, but I do pay the SAF... I only mention this, since I've seen it mentioned for other posters in this thread. You can review my original post here which contains a listing of my options, or see the bottom of this message.

Moreover, I'm curious to find out if buying and activating an iPhone involves either (1) a forced change in data or voice plans, and/or (2) a forced monthly fee for iPhone-specific features (e.g. visual voice mail). Is upgrading to the iPhone any different from upgrading to another phone?

Remember, when it is all said and done, I will continue to use my current handset, and I will only use the iPhone as an iPod (WiFi, no SIM). Therefore I do not want to incur any voice, data, or price changes that I won't actually be using.

I don't mean to over complicate things; I just want to be informed before I place the phone call to Fido. Again, I appreciate all of the help.

    Current agreement details:
    350/Unl. E/WE (7PM) + long distance (Can/US) $45
    Expanded Network option $5
    GPRS/Internet package $50/unl. $50
    Voice Msging w/Instant Reply $8
    9-1-1 Emergency Access Fee $0.50
    System access fee $6.95

    Question Advice on Expectations

My wife and I have two lines on the same account. Hers is as follows:

No voice or data contract, month to month.

    100/1000 E/WE + Unl. incom. 25.00
Credit: Monthly credit of $10 -10.00
    Credit: Monthly credit $10 -10.00
    Credit: Monthly credit $5 -5.00
    200 anytime minutes 10.00
    100 text messages 5.00
Voice Messaging + Call Display 9.00
    9-1-1 emergency service 0.50
    System access fee 6.95
    Total before taxes: $31.99
    GST 1.60
    PST 1.89

    Total for Fido: $35.48

I have an Iphone 3G on voice contract until Jan, 2012, and data until Aug 2011.

    City Fido Vancouver unlimited 40.00
    iPhone Value Pack+VVmail 15.00
    Internet option / 6 GB 30.00
    9-1-1 emergency service 0.50
    System access fee 6.95
Credit: System access fee credit -6.95
    Total before taxes: $85.50

    GST 4.28
    PST 5.99

    Total for Fido: $95.77

My wife is at home a lot more these days (twins) and is regularily going over the 300 mins in her plan 100-200 min over = $30-$50, as well the 100 texts are not sufficient (100+ over = $10-$15). We dont need a new phone, bought a samsung hype for $50 bux at walmart and unlocked it. She doesnt need data either. Is there any room to negotiate with our current retentions deal on her number. Average bill of $130 was no problem with overages we are around $170-$180. Signing a contract is no problem, I have been with fido since '97 and dont plan on leaving, they have been very good for us. Any input.

    Cheers,

Indeed, there's almost no price plan close to yours...but we should be careful about "a discount could be requested" thing...I'd rather suggest you to ask them what are the possibilities of lowering your monthly charges at a descent price...

If your Fido agreement ends in Janurary 15 2010, you currently eligible to renew your Fido agreement and get an handset discount. The Fido agreement window for renewal is 6 months before the end of the Fido agreement...

There's no problem of keeping your current Data Option (50,00$/ Unlimited GPRS) and getting the iPhone 16GB 3Gs @ 199,00$. The discounts will be split in two different invoices; Handet price= +699,00$, Fido agreement discount= -300,00$, Fidodollars= -whatever you have. The system will apply automatically a 200,00$ iPhone Data Discount on your next invoice. I'll be honest with you, due to your GrandFather Data Option, it might be possible then the system won't recognize it and you might have to call to request to add it manually if it doesn't show up...

Yes you can, due to the fact then you pay the SAF, you eligible for an handset discount on the top of using your Fidodollars to purchase an iPhone 3Gs.

jobs50, you can simply change two things, the current price plan against a 25,00$ Fido Loyalty Price Plan, it basically the same plan except you have 200 weekday min. Instead of 100 minutes.

As for the SMS, there a 5,00$/200 option or a 10,00$ option for unlimited. So it's up to you two (Plus the twins)...

First I want to send out a huge thank you!!! to all who took the time to help me and answer my endless questions; especially Fritz Z24.

I placed the phone call to Fido today and here's what they were kind enough to do for me with a new 3-year agreement:

    New agreement details
    350/Unl. E/WE (7PM) + long distance (250 Can/US) $45 --> (Same)
Expanded Network option $5 --> Same, except discounted by $5.
    GPRS/Internet package $50/unl. $50 --> Same, except discounted by $10.
    Voice Msging w/Instant Reply $8 --> Replaced with free $10-bundle (2500 txt/call-ID/voice mail).
    9-1-1 Emergency Access Fee $0.50 --> (Same)
System access fee $6.95 --> (Same)
    * All discounts are for the term of the agreement.

    Handset
    - iPhone 16GB 3GS, as per the pricing described by Fritz Z24.
    - The Fido rep told me that without a SIM card, the iPhone continuously complains that one it not installed. Installing a deactivated SIM card is enough to defeat these warning messages.

I think it went pretty well. This was partly due to having my expectations in check. Having advance knowledge of at least what they could possibly offer me gave me reserved confidence and kept me calm. The Fido Customer Relations rep was really helpful and nice, too.

    I got what I wanted:
    - Kept core options.
    - A lower monthly bill that's just over the $100 mark.
    - A text messaging option that will prevent those extra costs, and keep my bill from inflating each month.
    - A new handset at the reduced (3-yr) price and with Fido$.

    Thanks again!

not sure what your second question is. If you read back far enough in this thread you'd know that i plan to simply use it as an ipod. Never had an iphone before, but i'm pretty sure i'll continue to use my andoid handset as my main phone.

i just wanted to post my great experience with fido. Been a customer since 2005, and I always TRIED to get a good retentions deal, never signed a contract with a cellular provider ever. Im moving from Brampton to Burlington and unfortunately the two are considered long distance, and seeing how ill just be living in burlington and commuting to toronto daily, along with monthly trips to Windsor, i was in a bind. The CSR offered me 1000 canadian long distance mins for $10. I then questioned WHY i was given a 1 year SAF credit and now im paying it again, the CSR was reasonable and said I had to upgrade to the new plans and pay a waiver....my argument was why should I have to pay a waiver like new customers, dont I deserve at least to not pay the waiver? Then I told him to not bother changing anything and that I was going to shop around since I wasnt getting any special treatment from fido for my loyalty. He asked me what my needs are, put me on hold, and this is what I was offered

    the $27.50 pkg...2 year contract
200 mins, unltd e/w, call display, voicemail, 2500txt

$10 for 1000 canadian long distance
$15 for email and IM for my blackberry...which works great on my storm, using MSN, BBM and Gmail

    no SAF!
In the end im paying less than $60 a month, i was paying $60.50 for my old plan!

thanks to fido customer care, its been a few calls before I got what I deserved, but when i was serious about leaving, i got what I deserved! Now i can continue to enjoy all the cute dog ads, because we all know thats what we stay for!!
