Try a L2PT VPN setup.
I've been reading up a bit on the ModMyI forums about this for a bit more possible research, and tried something myself with some success [on accessing the web].
Try to use either a L2TP-based VPN (like Hotspot Shield) and set it up with the VPN software on your phone (if you have any... WM should, iPhoneOS does, etc). This should work as long as you maintain an active data connection (so phone calls and SMS will probably disrupt the VPN connection, unfortunately).
I've done this and it works so far on my backup iPhone with SK plan. I think my Push Notifications' also keeping the VPN connection alive, so that might be a good thing if you're an iPhone user.
A Cisco/IPSec-based VPN might also work, but PPTP won't (others have confirmed this).
There's a couple other options like Tor that some are looking into as well in the MMI topic I've been reading up on.
Here's my post about on ModMyI with my observations: http://www.modmyi.com/forums/t-mobil...ml#post4903803

After this SK hack episode, seems like T-Mobile is messing up. I just logged on to my.t-mobile.com to view my prepaid account I was using with SK APN. This is a sim I activated like 2 weeks ago. Only $10 has ever been applied to this sim. Now it says I've achieved Gold Rewards and the expiration date has reset again to another 90 days.
That Gold Rewards thing when you're on Sidekick has been messed up for at least a few weeks. As soon as you switch back to PAYG it'll disappear if you aren't really Gold Rewards. The 90 day thing though I'm not so sure about it. If you just activated it's in the $30 bonus plan. Maybe that has something to do with it.
So, now, with this seemingly gone, what are our options? SK prepaid was one of the best options out there for a prepaid iPhone and I'm absolutely loathe to go to AT&T. I'd go with Flexpay but I'd prefer something totally prepaid :/
Edit: looks like it's official.
Mike G: This service is no longer available. You will need to obtain a Sidekick device and Sidekick data plan to use this service.
Mike G: Sorry for the inconvenience.
<me>: Do you have any other method of obtaining prepaid data, then?

Damn, after playing around with it and getting it working on my iPhone, it figures that they shut it down. I was hoping to have data on my upcoming trip, but I guess not now.
Let's hope they come out with a prepaid BB plan now (and not that Flexpay stuff) to make up for it. Frankly with the 8520, it seems like a good idea, even if they limit the APN to only BIS data. At least we could get email and web browsing, and they wouldn't have to worry about abuse from tethering (unless using something like Tetherberry, but that's another story for another thread).
I did confirm that this was a security hole in the Sidekick prepaid data service and it has been closed for the security of our Sidekick users.
We are always open to feedback and suggestions on how to improve your prepaid experience.Use the link below to post any suggestions you may have regarding how T-Mobile can improve its prepay offerings. We highly encourage all of you to let us know what prepaid services you would like to use, as well as how you use your phone.
Keep in mind, the more folks that participate, the stronger our case will be for adding these services in the future.
