850mhz in multiple locations in SF this morning

This morning I discovered I have full bars of 3G in my living room near Delores Park on channel 4160. A speed test give me about 1070kbps. I am also seeing 850mhz over on Potrero hill.

Most of SoCal Downlink is 4385 = 877MHz
    You're showing uplink 4160 = 832MHz
Since up/down on cellular is off by 45 MHz, SF is using the same block as the rest of CA/NV
    AT&T..3G on 850MHz + 1900MHz in SoCal... its about F'ing time!

Oh right. I gave the first number is the uplink. The downlink is 4385. I got 1700kbps in a couple of speed tests. Last night. Anything over 800kbps is unheard of in SF and it is usually more like 400kbps so this is a massive improvement.

I'm in SF now on a weekend trip, and I'm seeing 850 and lots of bars all over the place. Inner Sunset, SOMA, Marina District, and even up in Mill Valley (Marin area). Calls are clear and data rates are decent. Wow, looks like they flipped on the whole city, or most of it. I'm impressed, and this could mean a huge improvement for city residents, though I'd have to live here a while to know for sure. But it's certainly a whole lot better since the last time I was here, that's for sure

I seem to be getting 850Mhz now in the Outer Sunset (Ocean Beach @ Pacheco) and when I do it's MUCH faster data! It does seem to go back to 1900Mhz a lot though and making a call usually kicks it back to 850Mhz.

Adding to my post from yesterday - I'm now in Union Square, getting 5 bars on 850 MHz while deep inside Macys. Data rates still decent - getting 1100 down, 120 up. I even got signal three floors underground in the parking garage. Not bad AT&T, not bad at all.

For the first time ever I didn't drop 3G once on my Muni ride from Ocean Beach to downtown SF! Also held a call in the elevator on 3G all the way up for the first time ever.

I knew that 3G 850 Mhz would make a difference, but even I'm surprised at just how much difference it seems to have made. I wonder how much of it just the doubling of capacity rather than just the better penetration 850Mhz provides?

On your iPhone dial *3001#12345#* then hit call. go to "UMTS Cell Environment" then "UMTS RR Info" and there you can see the Uplink and Downlink Frequencies.

Here in the Bay area anything in the 4,000s is 850Mhz and anything in the 9,000s is 1900Mhz.

    Yeah - enter *#*#364#*#*
Then select the 'group' WCDMA, and you'll see what's in my signature

    Serving UARFCN = 4385 = 850MHz,
    Serving UARFCN = 512 = 1900MHz
    Serving AGC = -29 = Good signal.
    Serving AGC = -100 = poor signal.
