Thanks, that's what I wanted to hear. I see that they pulled the vx8360 from the Verizon website recently. Does that mean they are going to make the Clout available soon?

Out of the 3 PTT phone, the Convoy was the worst one.

    I wouldn't get it.
But since you aren't looking for a PTT phone, then go with the Clout. I like it a lot better as the call quality is good, 2.2" display, and nice speakerphone.

I saw these at Wal-Mart for $220 w/o contract, or $0.97 for 2 year contract or upgrade. The Cosmos was also there for $240 & 0.97

    VX8370 Notes

Picked up a VX8370 yesterday. Couple of notes:

    - Bought at Walmart for $0.97 with contract. The Hadley, MA Walmart had never heard of the phone and it didn't show up in their computer either (very strange). The Northampton, MA Walmart had the phone displayed and the woman working there was familiar with it. They had only one in stock.

    - The phone is simple and the build quality is good. The hard plastic is very "plastic-y" but not grossly unappealing. My previous phone was the VX8600, which I used for years. The VX8370 is thicker and the materials feel cheaper, but the build feels a little more solid actually. The back is a nice rubbery plastic material.

    - The interface is very responsive. The reason I kept my VX8600 for so long was because it was incredibly responsive. The VX8370 is almost as responsive, yet the screen resolution is much higher. The VX8370 has less interface lag than the VX8360. In fact, the VX8370 is the most responsive currently-available Verizon phone I've seen.

    - There are three themes: White, Spotlight, and Glow Scope. There's no VZW (default) theme, although the White theme uses the color-coded menus scheme. Spotlight is an appealing and unobtrusive deep desaturated blue theme.

    - The program menu is accessible via ##PROGRAM8370 (##77647268370), and the code is 000000 (six zeros).

    - Pixel-accurate wallpaper size is 240x296. The bottom bar is 24 pixels.

    - The Verizon Wireless store in Hadley, MA confirmed that the phone is still only available through resellers. They were selling the VX8360 without a required data plan. The VX8370 does not require a data plan.

    - The VX8600 had a lot of trouble pairing to my car via Bluetooth, and would only work about 25% of the time. The VX8370 has no trouble whatsoever.

    - The buttons on this phone have a very solid "click" (both in feel and sound) which is typical of LG phones. They are not mushy. The hinge feels robust and snappy, with almost no play.

    - Call quality is fine. The speaker is loud, even at medium volume.

Excellent review! We have this phone and your review is spot on. Why Verizon corporate does not offer this phone boggles me. Great phone!

There are some known problems with the LG CLout, a.k.a. LG VX8370.

I've had mine since 7/31/10. Had to replace the original due to it constantly re-setting itself. (turning off then on) Also, I've had to call tech support 3 times for the phone's inability to send picture or video messages.

Another early Clout user on this forum has abandoned the model altogether. His callers were constantly receiving busy signals. He finally had enough and went back to his previous phone.

So indeed, the Clout is a good phone but there are known issues.

I replaced my original Clout a few weeks ago due to resetting. When I called in they had a little trouble finding a warranty replacement in the system. They did find one though. I wonder how many replacements they have sitting around?

I've had the phone for a few days now, and there are a few issues I've noticed so far.

    - Pressing the play/pause button on the front of the phone sometimes fails to wake it up (aka turn on the small LCD so I can see the date & time). This happens 10-20% of the time. Could be either a hardware or software issue.

    - Album art in MP3/ID3 tags is not displayed in the My Music app. Instead, a generic CD icon is always shown. This is definitely a software issue, and should be fixed via firmware update.

    - Music streamed to my car via Bluetooth Stereo is low quality to the point of being unlistenable. It lacks high frequencies, sounds very muddy, and there's a slight background hiss at high volume. I'm not sure if this is the phone or the car (2010 VW Golf), but since the car plays CDs and AUX fine, I'm guessing it's the phone. Hopefully a software issue. Note: this is my first experience using Bluetooth Stereo.

    - Inability to delete the default sounds and pictures. Just kind of annoying.

    - I downloaded one game (Sonic the Hedgehog 2) and while it ran very smoothly, it had some issues. The music would cut in and out, and sometimes stop altogether. Also, there was a gameplay bug that prevented one from getting past the second zone. The app was tagged "vx8500." When I called Verizon they refunded the purchase and the CSR was apologetic.

    - Inability to change the font size in TXT message "conversation view." The font size is too large and messages more than a few words are often cut-off. Slightly annoying, since one can always click into the message to read it in its entirety.

    - The icon glossary, while incredibly large, is still missing some icons, notably involving songs and files on the SD card.

So far I've had no issues with spontaneous resets or receiving calls. I haven't tried sending or receiving picture messages yet. Bluetooth pairing, file transfer, and handsfree use has been flawless. I've disabled 3G via the service menu, and battery life has been nothing short of fantastic. One other positive I've noticed is the quality of the interior screen, especially viewing angles; it has nearly 180 degrees range without color distortion both horizontally and vertically, and the blacks are rich. Interface snappiness continues to impress.

Hey loglow, where was the service menu located for disabling 3G that you mentioned. (I've disabled 3G via the service menu, and battery life has been nothing short of fantastic.).
    Thanks

1st one isn't a bug, as all (or most) Verizon phones with the old "red" music player do not show the album art. It's just the way it works...or doesn't work. You'd think by now they'd have an updated player in the VX83xx line, but still using the same outdated one.

For the Bluetooth, I've used the Clout (when I had the demo unit) to stream MP3s to a Motorola stereo Bluetooth headset, and the quality was pretty good, better than when using my Moto V9m phone. So I'm wondering if it might be your car's BT on this one, or the Clout not working well with it. I think it may be using Headset or Handfree profile in this case, not Stereo A2DP. That would be why it sounds bad and has some background hiss.

In the month that I had a demo unit, it not once restarted on its own.

Hey loglow, would you tell me what you modified to turn off the 3G. I can get into the service menu, but I'm not familiar with the terminology. (I've disabled 3G via the service menu, and battery life has been nothing short of fantastic.)
    Thanks
