Life was nice when I could use a reliable VX8300 or VX8370 and have that simplicity & reliability, however in today's world, if you are a single guy, and you date women younger than 50, you have no choice but to be texting all the time, so I have to have a phone with a full QWERTY keyboard - LG Cosmos/Rumor2 here I come!
To the VX8300 series, Goodbye old trusted friend!
This cracked me up, too funny! I have texting blocked on my phone and tell everyone that. I say if you want to talk to me, call me. If you want to type to me, email me. I think it's ridiculous to spend an hour texting back and forth when you can say what needs to be said in a 5 minute phone call. Just say no to texting, LOL!
Oh and I do have an actual question on my mind too. I know I read somewhere on this forum or online elsewhere, that you can take your phone into a Verizon store and have all of your ringtones transferred to your new phone (including the purchased ones). I stopped into a VZW store and the guy said he'd never heard of such a thing, only transferring contacts. He said to just download the ringtones again, then call CS and request a credit for them. Problem is, my ringtones are polyphonics that were downloaded with an old app that doesn't exist anymore. I prefer them over the real tones that everybody has these days.
So I guess, does anybody know if they really can transfer them in the stores, and maybe this guy just isn't aware of it? Should I ask at another store? I was able to use bitpim and bluetooth to pull some ringtones off my phone, but they're the ones I manually added. The purchased ones, and the originals supplied with the phone, don't show up. (This is my old VX8300 I'm working with, wanting to transfer to the 8370). Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

For the ringtones that came with the VX8300, check out this thread (below). I haven't tried it, so I can't personally vouch for any of the suggestions in it.
For the purchased ringtones, maybe it might be possible to send them to the new phone via text message ? If a friend or family member is on Verizon, too, you could activate either the VX8300 or the VX8370 temporarily to that person's phone number and then try to text message the purchased ringtones.
Are copies of any of the purchased ringtones also on your computer ? You could try to email those ringtones to your VX8370. I don't remember for sure the way to do it -- I think this is the email address you're supposed to use: [your number]@vzwpix.com

Has Verizon quietly added a new feature to the Contacts app for the feature phones ?
I had thought it was just the Samsung u370 that had the ability download to a memory card a copy of every contact.
But I just discovered that the Clout will let you ...
- move your contacts off of a memory card and into the phone's internal memory to be used by the Contacts app
- move your contacts off of the phone's internal memory and onto the memory card
- make copies of the contacts that are in the phone's internal memory and put those copies onto the memory card
- make copies of the contacts that are on the memory card and put those copies into the phone's internal memory
When I was using cellphone bluetooth to transfer contacts from the u370 to the Clout, sometimes either individual fields for a contact weren't being transferred or the information in an individual field was getting partially cut off during the transfer; but I'm talking about fields that are on both phones for a contact. The u370 has a few fields (e.g. personal address and also business address) that the Clout lacks.
I put onto the memory card for the Clout a copy of each contact from the u370, and then instructed the Clout to move those contacts from the memory card to the Contacts app. I haven't done a close comparison; but initially it looks like no information was lost. However, on the u370 it's no problem to view something like a long street address for a contact. But on the Clout, the screen won't show the entire street address if it's a long one. I have to push the edit button to view the entire address then choose 'cancel' to cancel the edit.
Here's how to save to the memory card a copy of the contacts.
- MENU
- press '9 Settings & Tools'
- press '0 Memory'
- press '2 Phone Memory'
- press '7 My Contacts'
- press the upper-right shoulder button to select "Options"
- select 2 Copy
- then select the contact(s) that you wish the phone to make a copy of to put onto the phone's memory card
Pressing the upper-left shoulder button to select 'Move' moves the contacts without retaining a copy of the contacts in the phone's internal memory.

Addendum: It looks like even when transferring contacts between the VX8370 and our Samsung phone via memory card that the "Groups" field and "Notes" field are not transferred at all. Maybe those two fields are only transferable between two phones if those phones are of the same brand ?
just picked up a used vx8370, really like the call quality and the battery life, but I can't get it to pair with any Stereo bluetooth devices. If the device is a stereo handsfree set, my phone will connect with the handsfree profile only, no A2DP profile. If it is a device that has the A2DP profile only, like my home stereo, then the vx8370 will recognize it but fail to connect. Every other bluetooth option I have tried seems to work fine. SW is version 02.

Any ideas?

From what I've heard, Stereo Bluetooth A2DP and AVRC control can depend on how compatible the phone is with that particular device. For example, my Clout works just fine with the Motorola 820 and S9 Stereo Bluetooth headsets and AVRC when you can use the buttons on the headset to pause, play, and skip tracks. But some other phones will not recognize the AVRC functions of the two Motorola headsets.
My advice would be to try out some different brands Stereo BT headsets and see what works best for you.
The same thing is true for cars with BT. On my Altima, I can only use the Clout for calls, not music, as those profiles are not supported. But some cars have phone book integration with BT, but the phone has to have that profile, and not all of them do.
I just got me a VX8370 .. thinner & lighter than my old 8300. I can get it connected to Windows 7 x64, recognized as a COM and USB modem. I cannot get Bitpim to transfer anything to it, "Access to the file/directory has been blocked on this phone by the phone provider"

What are you trying to transfer ?
For ringtones, luckily this is one of the rare Verizon phones where ringtones can be placed into one of the folders on a microsd card formatted inside the phone. See my post here for more info: (link) [post #221 of this thread]
I can also transfer ringtones to the Clout via bluetooth transfer from another cellphone.
Pictures, contacts, and videos I can transfer to the Clout via microsd card. For more info on transferring contacts to the phone via microsd, see this link: (link) [post #349 of this thread].
I can also transfer contacts and pics via Bluetooth to this phone.
And regarding when I said I transferred either ringtones or pics or contacts or videos via microsd, I'm referring to either the phone's USB Mass Storage option or a memory card reader. I'm currently using this as a memory card reader:

I'm genuinely sorry to hear that. On a postpaid account, I don't think the vx8370 ever required a data plan. I believe its predecessor the vx8360 required one for awhile.

I wanted to share that I think I fixed a problem with the earpiece.
I keep the vx8370 in the same carrying case that I used for a Motorola e815. Even though I wore the carrying case during yard work that raised a lot of dust like mowing and raking, I never had any problems with the e815.
So I recently wore the carrying case with the vx8370 while doing some raking.
Yesterday I heard a buzzing in the vx8370's earpiece during a call that wasn't present while the speakerphone was on.
I remembered a post from someone who fixed the buzzing in another make and model of phone (maybe it was an e815) by blowing air into the earpiece.
I have a bulb with an angled metal tube attached to it and used it to blow some air into the earpiece. That fixed the buzzing for a few phone calls. The buzzing came back. I squirted the earpiece with air again, and again the earpiece sounds clear again and so far has remained sounding fine. Maybe an empty syringe could be used, too, to squirt some air. I'm not sure if it'd be safe to use a can of compressed air because I think I've read that the air immediately out of the can is cold enough to damage a part.
Another idea I had but didn't try was putting a drop or two of 99% isopropyl alcohol into the earpiece.
So I guess either the e815 was less susceptible than most phones to dust-induced problems or maybe the vx8370 is more susceptible than most phones to dust-induced problems.
