Anyone know if a Rogers Lumia 710 will work on the UMB plan I currently have on a Sony Vivaz Pro? The Sony broke and I didn't want to switch anything.

Even when I had UMB, I used internet.com (with a Nokia 5800).

hey folks,
I'm on monthly contract with rogers with tons of credits and the value pack with UMB. I've been holding on to my C905 for almost 3 years now because I really dislike the blatant price gouging that is data plans.
I use opera mini, google maps, via the goam.com GoRogers connection and I average about 100-150MB a month in data usage. Even the stock browser works fine.
Now I've read a whole bunch of posts here and in other places and there's still not a definitive answer as whether using my SIM on a grey market Android phone (probably from Expansys) would work. we're talking about the goam access here not the internet.com one.
I'm getting ready to get the international SIII int he next couple of months and would love to know if it will work.
I read that folks on AT&T down south were able to keep grandfathered UMB plans with grey market phones by just providing a dumbphone IMEI when they call in.
I'd rather keep my $28 tax in plan than fighting my way through retentions to get something at $67 with 6GB of data (best I could pull off in the last few months of negotiation.) unfortunately I'm unable to try my sim on any android phone because allthe people I know have iPhones (shame!)
Thanks for any help.
@ yrelease. Sorry for the late reply. From what I know, your sim will not work with a grey market Android. Unlike Bell, Rogers apparently carries out IMEI filtering and will detect your grey market phone, unless they have abandoned this practice since they did away with UMB.
Incidentally I had the exact same phone (C905) and Value Pack as you, before I ported out to Bell late last year.
I'm wondering the same thing. Just got off the phone with Rogers, and the lady told me to go to a rogers store and try my Sim in some phones and see if the WAP works, they could not tell if the UMB would work. I;ve got an LG Xenon and I want a slightly newer better phone.
I might stop and try this, anyone try their Rogers SIM with UMB in a smart phone
anyone try UMB with the nexus 4? im thinking it might work since its a new phone and rogers won't now all the IMEIs and might let it slip by? just a guess on my part

I don't know about the Nexus 4, but I think your best bet would be any smartphone that does not require a data plan for full subsidy.
