Brand New TM506 - what to do before debranding?

So i've read that certain things can/should be backed up before debranding a TM506.

I just got a brand new one, and havent used it yet. I'm waiting for it to charge full before doing anything.

I know I lose some java apps (games?) by debranding. Are any worth keeping? Are they full games or demo games?

I've gone through the debranding wiki, and completed understand the process - but before I start, what should I be considering?

Also, I am going to search for it now, but if anyone sees this before I find it, how do I find out what firmware my phone has, and which is the TMO firmware that allows tethering?

    Thanks!

I think all the games that come with the T-Mobile version of the phone are demos. I know there was a demo of Smarter than a 5th grader and of midnight pool. But you can check.

There's really nothing to backup if your phone is new.

To see what firmware you have, do the keystrokes right * left left * left * on the main screen. It will open up the service menu. Select service info then software info. If it says R3DA030, that's the firmware that's harder to tether with. If it starts with with R3CA, that firmware is possible to tether though not in as many ways as if you debrand it.

Awesome, thanks man. I have the earlier firmware. In the wiki, i beleive it assumes the later firmware.

I have copied the Customize Upgrade to the phone, ran the updated service and instead of it saying I have the latest and asking if I want to reinstall, it said there is an update available. Do I let it install anyway? Or do I remove the customize upgrade, let it update to R3DA, then copy the customize upgrade onto the phone again, and then reinstall?

Just want to make sure I don't do anything that can brick this thing!!!

    thanks

Yes since you have the earlier firmware it gives you the message that there is an update available instead of the message shown on the wiki (which occurs if you had R3DA firmware instead.
