Ok, so I have seen a bunch of threads to this effect, people like the stock ringers off their LG devices.. and I have obliged a few times in the past. The problem is, that it can take a little time for me to get around to it.. so if you want to do it yourself... here ya go:
What you will need:
-->Multiextractor - This great program is what I use to fish out the files. It's pay software and could very well be worth the money if you use it a lot. If not, the internet is a big place, and somewhere out there you might find cracked versions of it. I'm not suggesting you do this, but it is always a possibility. Google / Torrents are always your friend.
-->The firmware BIN for the device.. many of these are available on Humpa's VZW page, my flashing thread, or elsewhere on the net.
That's pretty much it, the rest of this will deal with the 'howto' part.. and will assume you have both of the prerequisites.
First, multiextractor adds handy context menu options.. so just right click on the bin file to get the options, or alternately, I suppose you could just launch the program. Anyhow, you want to choose just to extract the one file, not the whole directory in this case.
Next the options menu will pop up, you want to set them like I have them here.. unless you just want to dump everything into a folder, then choose 'standard mode'
Now you will find all of your firmware's media files neatly laid out for your exploring pleasure. I have found that generally:
mp3 - startup, shutdown, and modern ringers (as in the ones on newer phones)
mid - ringers and various noises and alerts
wav - the 'voice' of your phone's voice menus.. the 'Did you say?' and 'Call from... ' etc..
That's it! You're done. If you can't find it in there, try another revision of them firmware. You can also modify things like splash screens and icons, though mostly the Verizon versions of these devices are pretty well skinned with the GIN frontend, etc.. but it's worth a look anyways.

thanks for this!
now i can rip out the sounds from old phones and move them to my new phones! can't wait to try this!
Anyone successfully use this method on the Env Touch? In addition to ringers, I want to delete some stock pictures. Will it work on those as well? Thank you.
If you have a copy of the firmware BIN for the touch, you might be able to extract a few things from it. What I don't know.. is what would happen if you removed a stock photo from the firmware and then flashed the phone with said firmware. It might work, or it might bug out when it tries to write files that aren't there. If you're going to do something like that, I'd suggest overwriting the files rather than deleting them outright.
That was going to be my second question. I have not been able to find the firmware for the Touch just yet. I haven't looked extensively either but if someone knows of a source, please let me know.Originally Posted by Steve.G
Also, I would rather not flash my phone. Your method involves a simple delete operation which seems rather safe so I would like to stick to that.
This tutorial is not about removing stock ringers from your phone, and it's probably my fault for the poorly worded title. It's about extracting them from the firmware files for future use. Remember that a firmware bin is just a file on your computer's hard drive. Modifying it would do nothing, unless you then wrote that file to your phone (flashed it).Originally Posted by shobuddy
Also, because none of the revisions of the touch's firmware have been leaked yet (that I know of), you won't be able to find them. Once some kind soul decides to leak them, you're golden. For now this would be great for Voyagers, Chocolates, etc, etc, that have a lot of firmware files floating around out there.
Aaah, thanks for the clarification![]()
i used bitpim
highlight the ringer file
copy then paste to your desktop or any folder etc
Does this work on "My Sounds" as well? Thats the main thing I want to get off. I have not had luck getting bitpim to connect to the touch but if you have been able to get the stock sounds off, I'll try to connect to bitpim again.Originally Posted by turbineblade

Just wanted to also let you know that Phonezoo has many of the text alert sounds for different phones. I found a very similar one (if not the exact one you are looking for) on there just now. If you search for "beeps", it comes up. Here is the link:

If you have an account (which is free to sign up), you can send the ringtones to your phone and save them as a sound or ringtone, or both. I have a Samsung Rogue, and have downloaded several tones from Phonezoo. :-)
Any one have the LG 8300 number 8 tone? I want this so bad but have no idea what this song is called. Its like a music box tone that I have used for my daughter's ring tone for over 5 years now.
