    Phone dials #777 by itself??

So I switched to Alltel a little over a month ago. Long story short, I noticed that every night at 1:41 am my phone (Samsung Hue II) makes a data call to #777 (Alltel's data line). My wife's phone does this every night at 3:48 am.

Why in the hell do our phones make data calls on their own?? I called their customer service and they have no clue and say they have never heard of this. I have even locked the phones and also restricted all outgoing calls, but that won't stop it. I have also tried disabling anything that may try to update on its own.

Anyone know what is going on????????????

Sorry if this has been discussed before.

isn't that the phone checking for a software update using Firmware Over-The-Air? Just a guess. If so it's a good thing and won't cost you a penny...

Maybe. What bugs me the most is that no one, not even Alltel tech support has a clue what is doing that??

Since I have a local plan, I do get roaming charges when I am out of area for these calls. Already happened. I called and complained that I did not make these calls and they did credit my bill.

the phone itself could be the issue. scoops were notorious for just dialing things. as far as #777 ive asked three people here and theyve never heard of it.

You can always block data or add a data feature. But its hard to tell you what it is doing.....maybe there is a problem with the phone, updating some app, etc.

Problem is that the Alltel data line (internet, pic/video texts) is #777. So if I disable it I can't use those features.

Just want to understand why it is making data calls on its own?

Do you have anything like Alltel Backup or any other App that could be doing it?

where are you getting this "#777 is Alltel's data line" from?

and let's back up just a little, how do you know it's dialing "alltel's data line"? what is showing on the bill?

Actually it is dialing 777, not #777. Not sure why I said #777.

Anyway, whenever I send a pic/video message or if I get on the web, the data call log on the phone shows that the phone hooked up to 777.

Below is what the bill showed for the roaming call.

pcdebb, because HE'S ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. No offense, but the tone of your voice is really rude considering you clearly don't understand at all. CDMA (Verizon/Sprint/Alltel) uses the number #777 to reach data services. It's not really a phone number as much as a code used by the system as a fill in for packet data purposes.

Yep that's the "phone number" Alltel phones use for data.

Nothing that I am paying for. I have deleted every app that will let me from the phone.

Really wierd that this happens to no one else.

Any other Alltel Hue II users out there that can look at thier data call log???
