Basic question about programming a phone on work on another carrier

say i wanted to get a metro psc or a sprint phone to work on PP. would i just need to reprogram the carrier information on the phone via PC?

or is it way complex than that? sorry, im a novice.

There is no simple answer to that question. It depends on what carrier you are starting with and what features you need to have working.

Read the handset mods for Verizon handsets as a starting point. It is typically harder from other carriers.

    http://wiki.howardforums.com/index.p...a_Provisioning

Also from the FAQ (which, by the way, you should have read)

Sprint (and Sprint MVNO) handsets are by far, the most difficult. All handset are locked, The OTA activation is incompatible. The MMS system (Picture Mail) is incompatible. IMHO, these handsets are more or less for serious hackers only.

Virgin handsets are PCS 1900 MHz only - don't even bother.

Other CDMA phones (Cricket, Alltel, USCC, unbranded etc.) are more compatible and
are often unlocked so you can at least do some manual programming to get basic voice and text functionality and get OTA activation to work. YMMV.

Page Plus handsets and Verizon PDA'a (Windows & Palm) will do internet upon activation. ALL other handsets will require at least some hacking to get WAP/internet working. Consult the tutorials for handsets that have been successfully provisioned for data.

    1) You need to get the SPC or MSL on some phones in order to load the PRL.

    2) You need the program to load the PRL, such as CDMA Workshop.

    3) You need to load the Verizon PRL and then active the phone OTA.

To do all of this you need a data cable.

do i do all these steps before or after i submit the esn number for activation?

You can submit the ESN first no problem. It's just that the phone won't work until it's provisioned. You don't really even need OTA programming if you can set up everything it needs manually.

I don't know enough about cdma workshop to answer that question, and no, you can't OTA program using cdma workshop. OTA means "Over The Air" (from the carrier). If you are using a program and a cable, its not OTA.

if your programming the phone manually you dont have to change the SPC (changing SPC is to make it easier to enter code and for it to OTA if it can).

Page Plus PRL is the same as Verizon, pretty much.

You have to get the PRL on the phone.
You have to program SID, MDN, MIN.

''You have to program SID, MDN, MIN.''

To find those values, can I just copy them from an already active page plus phone?

Your MDN is your Page Plus phone number, and your MIN can be obtained from Page Plus or a Page Plus dealer. If you need to know your MIN, feel free to email us at support@keithwireless.com with your phone number and we will look up your MIN.

workshop is a good program to use if you learn how to use it. If not dont use customers phones as test dummies use your own to practice on.

CDMA will unlock the spc and you need to flash prl into the phone, read the users guide, search the forums and you wont have to ask those simple questions you would be answering them.
Life is an internal struggle, modding phones is a PITA.
