I just downloaded the firmware today. Its great. I almost went berserk when the portrait mode didn't work (had to turn it on duh).

But what is this? A download for Meego? Anyone have a clue?

It is only the core software platform so that apps can be built and run. I'm thinkin its like Maemo minus the "hildon" component in that regard... its the MeeGo 1.0 OS core that is code complete booting up to command line.

The actual handheld stuff won't be available until October or there abouts.

Quim Gil made an announcement yesterday on TMO that basically said he was looking to see a community supported MeeGo initiative for the N900. Or in other words:

    This is the first step.

I didn't get to ask but Quim thanked the following statement by javicq indicating to me that it was a pretty good synopsis...

The MeeGo we're talking here is actually Harmattan, which is just a rebranded maemo 6 and has little to do with the full blown MeeGo from MeeGo project discussed here.
So, theoretically at some point we will be able to run on our N900 either:

    -Good old Maemo 5.

-MeeGo 1.0, with the N900 hw adaptation done by the MeeGo project + reference handset UX + reference handset apps.

-Harmattan, with all adaptation effort done by the community + official Nokia apps.
    That's all I got

BTW, from the MeeGo that I've seen I'm thinkin' that the "engineering mindset" statement by Quim might actually translate into "your going to have to wind up the N900's clock if you want any of the MeeGo components to run decently on the N900".

I had to open up the command prompt as an administrator in order to get the flasher to work right under Win7.

Otherwise, no issues with flashing PR1.2. So far so good.
