Howcome all of my GV calls come up as unknown on caller announce unless they are in my phone book?

Because Google passes on the caller ID info that they receive and cell companies don't handle true caller ID info properly and only deal with the phone #.
My Adblock plus gets it's biggest workout at HoFo... especially with .sig images.

I just tried this from my home -> GV -> T-Mobile cell.

If my home caller ID is blocked then my cell phone gets my GV number as the Caller ID.

If my home caller ID is unblocked then my cell phone gets my home number as the Caller ID.

Maybe the OP could explain their situation a little more clearly...

The caller ID works, the caller announce does not. Even a landline won't pass through except anything other than UNKNOWN CALLER.

Cell phone companies NEVER pass on the name associated with the number.

Can you please use about 10 sentences to explain your complaint.

It seems to be working perfectly to me. All your complaints are not explaining exactly what is happening and what you don't like. Nor are you clear on what "phone book" you are talking about. Nor are you clear on your GV settings.

This is like a tech support CSR nightmare...

I think it is pretty simple. Caller announce does NOT announce the NUMBER of the caller. I was under the impression that it SHOULD. Is it ONLY supposed to announce from my phone book?

Why would it announce the NUMBER?

It announces the NAME as recorded by the person who is calling you. The first time they record the name for announcement, and after that it remembers the recorded name even if that person is not a GV contact.

The NUMBER is available to your phone as a CALLER ID.

P.S. This is what I mean about tech support nightmare. Even by your second post in this thread you never mentioned that you wanted it to announce the NUMBER...

There is a miscommunication here. I am refering to CALL PRESENTATION not CALL SCREENING.

Is this the situation you're complaining about?

I call your Google Voice number from a phone that is not in your cell phone's address book.

As your cellphone rings you look at the "caller ID" and it says

    "Unknown Caller
    555-555-5555"
Is that what your problem is?

If it is, your problem is with your cellphone company not Google Voice because as far as I know NO US cell provider offers true Caller ID.

Dude! You are the master of miscommunication.

It's complex because you still haven't strung together a handful of grammatical sentences detailing EXACTLY what your problem is.

I guess I assumed all of this was clear. I clearly said what I assumed Presentation would do. PRESENT the PHONE NUMBER calling me. But it only PRESENTS the NAME if the person is in my phone book.

Um, OK, but when I look at the Settings -> Calls menu in GV, next to Call Presentation, it says "Announces caller's name and gives answering options." I don't see anything about announcing the number. I don't get the impression they support that feature right now. Perhaps you should suggest it?
