too darn close in spelling... tisk tisk go back to the drawing board Motorola...
taking it back tomorrow, tell verizon what I think of moto's junk...

I think it's just verizon and their stupid input why does sprint get the Renegade which just screams with ear piece volume, build quality, ect... but verizon just puts rubber around a w755 and trys to pass it off as acceptable...that's what it seems like at least. All they had to do was put out some decent hardware now they're just going to get a bunch of returns like the last boulder..took them a half a year to fix that phone.

Can anyone tell me what display themes are on the phone? are any Moto like?
A phone is only fun when you can modify it anyway you please.

The Verizon UI....unhackable? I think not

can you take pictures of the steel theme? If past patterns are correct, it could be the Motorola UI theme.

The earpiece on the v950 is loud and clear but the build quality is quite poor.In fact Motorola recently released an upgraded hardware version the v950a to correct a multitude of issues with this device maimly performance related.I fully agree with your disatisfaction with the device. It is not a rubberized w755.It is very similar to the VA76r for ATT which has no earpiece issues and works very well. How is the volume and quality of the speakerphone on the v860?

I called this afternoon around 3 pm and was told it shipped today, I will have it monday.
I asked if they were going to credit the overnight shipping and the lady said no, that monday would be considered overnight.

    WTF????
She said that if I hadnt chose overnight it would be tuesday, to which I said NO, ive orderd phones that were shipped on friday with free shipping and they were delivered on monday.
So she said kind of in a nasty way that she would credit the 9 bucks back to me.
    UUURRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
Ordering the phone at 5 pm on a Thursday and expecting it the next day assuming the warehouse is in the same time zone is quite unrealistic. You have got to assume that an order that late will not get shipped untill the following day so therefore you will not receive it untill the next business day which is Monday.Verizon is correct it stating that is an overnight shipment. The fact that you received non overnight phones were done at the discretion of the shipper.I have had many a fedex package sitting at the local depot that they held for another day because overnight shipping was not selected.

This is how it looks under the steel theme set as grid and you can position the menu items however you want

The steel theme is really nice. Is the Contact List and Messaging menu a matching dark gray/black?

My only beef with the Slick Black theme found on the Vu30 is that the submenus are the ugly rainbow colored gradients. Purple messaging menus and golden brown contact menus aren't the nicest.

I wonder if the switch to 3G icon and inclusion of Bing in the main menu are somehow related.

As for hardware, I hope the low speaker volume is just an initial batch glitch, as this would be a perfect phone for a relative of mine.

Wow back to the drawing board.A newly released phone with low earpiece volume that may be fixable with a software update hardly needs to be redesigned.I have yet to buy one but this device seems to be quite nice and a cousin to the Va76 for Att.Has anyone used the speakerphone? Are there any PTT users out there who have purchased it and are using it for Ptt.

I truly wish motorola would fold, they make the worst piece of crap stuff.
My fire dept went kenwood for our radios because the moto junk wouldnt hold up.
I have used a vu 204 moto phone and it worked good, for awhile, then it started with the colorful dots screen of death and random reboots.
If this barrage comes monday and it isnt up to nextel quality its going back and the hell with motorola until the day I die!
What exactly is nextel quality?I have had numerous Nextel Iden phones that had low crappy sounding earpieces.Iden phones are like any other phone technology theres good ones and bad ones. The i1000 which sold like crazy because it was the first smaller flip available had a tinny distorted earpiece and horrible rf performance. If you believe Motorola makes such poor quality products why would you even buy another one?

Preliminary review: my unit seems to be defective. For about 3/4ths of placed calls, the earpiece is nearly inaudible, even in a quiet room. Otherwise, it's actually quite loud except there is notable distortion and you can hear some vibration which isn't great. Although, in terms of ringer and speakerphone volume, I found it actually extremely loud. I'm not sure what others are talking about.

Screen quality is disappointing and is a step down in screen resolution from the QVGA on the V750. It's noticable when using the grid view for the menu as the text looks awful. On the upside, I love the outer display and the clock is enormous. It's bright and crisp which is a shame since the internet isn't great.

Build quality is a mixed bag as well. The battery door fits perfectly with no wiggle room. The outer keys have a great feel and there isn't the annoying "big red side key" issue like with the V750. The internal keys are fine. Overall, the phone is light but it feels like it would last. The hinge isn't Nextel or Type-V level by any means, but it's workable. If only it had a bit more heft, I'd really like it.

Again, my view is marred by the fact that I got a defective unit. I'm most likely going to send it back for a different model entirely if I don't come around and exchange it for another Barrage.

Boy, I wish they made the V950 Renegade for Verizon.

Im going to answer both your post aimed at me in this one post.
Next day should have not been an option if it wasnt avalible and even though it was there should have been an e mail to me stating it wasnt avalible and I would not be charged for it.
No more discussion on that issue.

Now, I have had an i670, i760, and a few other nextel phones, currently i576.
They all have had loud, clear earpieces, loud as hell ringers and speakerphones and felt like they were solidly made and were not going to break if you held it wrong, with the exception of the i576 which the flip part and hinge dont seem as solid as the previous phones.
Also they work, have not had software problems with any of them, the only problem is nextel here isnt as strong a network as I would like it to be, too many spots with no service.
I have had a v750, earpeice volume too low for me, didnt like the build quality/ feel, a vu204 which I actually liked, loud earpiece and speakerphone, great feel but didnt have the features I wanted, mp3, ptt etc.
Also it started having random reboots and then the colorful dots death screen and then the reboot.
I would recieve a call and answer it only to have the phone reboot.

I had a w755 which was fairly good also but had random reboots.

Me too. I have a V950 on Sprint now, and have tried repeatedly to get it working (with data) on Page Plus, but with no luck. If Verizon offered a suitable replacement for my V950 I would consider switching carriers. I really had my fingers crossed waiting for the Barrage, but I guess I have to continue to settle for Sprint service and a hacked PRL that lets me force roaming on Verizon (you can't force roaming with a stock PRL).

I got a chance to use the PTT last night, it seemed quick a bit clearer then my Bolder Boulder. The distinct "click" of the buttons is a nice feature as well, you have to push a decent amount of pressure to key up, better then the boulder red button that after a bunch of use just kinda depressed on its own almost.

    Preliminary impressions only.
