At least my understanding is that Hypersim or iNex only allow you voice and text capability.
I really, really hope that Docomo pulls though and opens up a US operation by the time I come home.
Similarly to the iphone when I had it, I use data MUCH more than anything else. While I feel that the iPhone has been overly played up as the Holy Grail of cell phones in the US, and has become quite popular in Japan as well, it has done one thing for me; it has essentially revolutionized the way I think about and use cellular technology.
If the SH-06 didn't have the Full-Browser web interface, along with GPS, and Applications, I wouldn't have purchased it. Calls are expensive to make here, so I mostly use e-mail from my phone which is free in Japan, and also you can purchase a "Packet Houdai" plan for 4,000 yen. So that 4,000 yen ($40) buys me unlimited data which allows me to access the internet, check my Yahoo and Gmail accounts, surf on facebook while on the train or watch TV on my SH-06a. I use the GPS when driving, and its nice to be able to send those super crisp pictures via e-mail to friends when the need arises. Heck, I would pay top dollar for any solution that would allow me to use the data networks on ANY of the major US carriers.
So to IonNuke, How is it that you have network capability on your cellphone in the US, despite the fact that you don't have a need for it? Because if I can do that and keep this phone, or whatever phone I purchase in the future before I leave Japan, I'm buying THAT product.
