1.6 killed my camera. Anyone else?

I was pleasantly surprised to get the 1.6 update so early in roll out and wanted to check out the update to the cam app, but every time I hit the cam button, camera, or camcorder app, it force closes. I tried restarting, but that didn't help at all. This happen to anyone else?

are you starting it from a shortcut on the desktop? Try launching it from the app menu. If that works then just create a new shortcut.

tried launching it from the menu, no dice. Any other app that uses camera or camcorder functionality also fails now. At this point I'm just trying to find an email address for android support.

Download 1.6 again. The OTA version should be on xda by now.

I did the manual update last night to the wife's unrooted G1. Camera and video working fine. Nice touch with the onscreen toggle for camer/video function.

Use mybackup to save your apps. Then wipe the phone, and reinstall the update. Restore you apps.

Running cyanogen 4.04 on my G1 so no cupcake love for me yet.

I wanted to leave the manual update as a last result, but since no one seems to know of a support email directly to android to ask them wtf happened I did the manual update. Wipe went fine, update install went fine, phone booted up, camera and camcorder still force close. Excuse me while I curse and smash something.

Update: called t-mo and they suggested a factory reset. Did the reset, setup, sync, then tried opening the camera application...force close.

Do you have like snap photo or camera zoom or another 3rd party cam app. If so do you get the same results with those. Also was your phone rooted at that point or ever prior to your donut update?

When I first received the update I had picsay, qik, and fxcamera, all of them had the same error as when I tried the stock apps. I never rooted at any point.

Called t-mo again a little bit ago to let them know the reset didn't work, and they're sending a replacement.

According to them, people have called claiming force close errors, but most have involved downloaded apps not updated to be compatible with 1.6, and for those getting errors with the stock apps a factory reset has solved the issue. He said, and hopefully this is true, I am alone in my problem as no one else has a record of this happening.

Have you tried doing a wipe and reinstalling the update. Your getting another phone anyways so if it works at least you know what you need to do the next time if at all.

The reason the phone is being offered/delivered is because nothing has worked, and everything has been tried.
