I think with a prepaid sim or getting it unlocked it is a really good value compared to a stand alone garmin GPS. It will probably get cheaper as the garminphone comes out on T-Mobile.

I am not sure when this took another price drop, but this is now $179.99 at Amazon!

It looks like Garmin is now going to be offering the Garmin Nuvifone G60 without cell phone capability as the Garmin Nüvi 295W.

I was thinking about the economics of this and I thought since the G60 can be bought for $179.99, just get it and it is cheaper than the Garmin Nuvi 295W. (In case anybody is wondering, even the model number of the battery is the same.) Maybe there will be some software changes that make some certain functionality of this better than the G60.
It looks like Google Local search is available on this and weather access.

I guess the G60 didn't sell well so they took out the radio and the bluetooth and flashed new firmware and sell it as a new device. It makes me wonder if even bothered to changed the hardware at all or just decided not to enable those features in the new firmware.
We were speculating about that very thing on another forum recently. It will be interesting to see if somebody compares them side by side.
When I bought my Garmin Nuvifone G60 several months ago, I performed the carrier subsidy unlock and have used it exclusively on T-Mobile. Today, however, I was in a very rural area near the Minnesota/Wisconsin border and I was curious how the device would work there. I still had YellowPages.com, even though I don't subscribe to a data plan. It also works on T-Mobile, so I have always assumed that it was as a result of T-Mobile T-Zones. Anyway, now I am curious, for most of the others here that have native AT&T, do you still have full functionality while roaming?
Looks like AT&T has stopped selling the G60 online.
The product was removed and all links are dead on their site. It bombed sales wise I guess.
G60 @ $179 on Amazon.com is tempting right now, I doubt it will get much cheaper. It's $100 cheaper than the 295W Nuvi when it comes out on May 16th (today).
I'm still waiting to see if a CDN carrier will pick up the A50 Garminfone or if I'll have to buy one outright and unlock it.
and I see Garmin has moved the G60 into the DISCONTINUED section.

So I guess we get zero updates to our US ATT phones Grrr!
I was reading a review about the new TMobile Garminphone and the article wondered if (ever) that phone would see Android 2.0/2.1 update.
I am keen to go and play with the new Garminphone and see if any of the "missing" features I wanted on the G60 will be available on this unit — surely copy & paste will be on the new unit...?![]()
As much as I really like having GPS built in (and it has proved amazingly worthwhile for me), I am now a little perturbed at making the jump to an Android device that is "old" by the time it gets released.
Thoughts anyone...?
It seems, that only a few of us "regulars" are following the G60/Garminphone adventure ;-)
I am still hoping/waiting for a way to flash my G60 with APAC or other version software. I think that hope is waning!
By the way, any suggestions for us US users with ATT on how to get the Garminphone so it works with 3G? Many of us are locked into a two-year contract, so starting a new contract to get TMo's 3G speed is not a viable option. I know the frequencies for ATT & TMo differ. Getting the TMo version at full price (or wait until it comes down on Amazon) and unlocking it might be the way to go, but only having Edge speed would be detrimental.
Anyone bought a full-price unit (doesn't have to be a Garmin phone) from an online shop that would allow using 3G speed on ATT as well as it being suitable for use in Europe?
I see that on the Garminphone, the dock connector is curved (like the phone). I wonder if our current Nuvifones can use that dock? Hmmmn....
Thanks.
PS - Started opening wife's broken Nuvifone but can't quite get the upper and lower parts of the casing to disengage. Hoping I can progress to open it up so I can have a peek to see if there is some sort of connector dislodged from the screen. Having a broken screen unit working is better than nothing working.
The G60 is now $69 on Amazon !
yes, $69.00
I think anyone with AT&T prepaid should get that phone now. It's got a fully functioning GPS and a few other features. I might get another one (or two).
Wow $70! Thankfully, I only paid $100 and not the $300 price (or $400 if you don't count the rebate!) — tempting to get another unit as a backup. Could we then fax AT&T the purchase price and they will give us our subsidy unlock codes...?
Something weird has been happening lately with my Nuvifone:
I couldn't find YellowPages at all. Thought I was in the wrong place on the phone. Restarted and it came back. This has happened a few times already.![]()
When I rebooted again this afternoon, instead of a YellowPages icon with magnifying glass, there was an icon with black binoculars, titled "Local Search" (nothing about Google search). I went to turn screenshot on so I could get a pic, but it "changed back" to Yellow Pages icon before I could get the screenshot. I rebooted again a few times hoping it would happen again, but nothing. I am figuring, something must happen when it connects to AT&T so that it "knows" to "put" that icon there instead of say, the Google search, that is on non AT&T phones. Weird.... Anyone else had that happen?
Also, in my Notes app, I often get bizarre random/garbled text notes. Some are unreadable and some look like startup code "log" thingies.
And one more...I can't have Bluetooth find any of my paired devices. To "solve" it, I have to take out the Micro SD card, disable bluetooth, enable it again and then my devices are "found" again. I can then put the Micro SD card back in and bluetooth is "fine" again.
Some interesting things happening here. Anyone else...?
I wonder if there will be any joy in flashing our phones to generic Nuvifone firmware now that they are discontinued? Hopefully someone here has a good friend at Garmin[Asus] or something that we can get the non AT&T version.
I've been trying to grab a G60 tonight, but Amazon is having issues with the shopping cart. It keeps taking the G60 out of it. I plan to call Amazon in the morning about this.
$70 for the GPS is a good deal, let alone with a built in 3G cell phone.
Actually anybody with any GSM prepaid phone since AT&T announced this recently! The Garmin Nuvifone G60 works just fine for me on T-Mobile.Originally Posted by kingstu

I just phoned ATT a few minutes ago and spoke with a CSR and asked about what would need to be done to get an unlock code. I explained that a phone was $300 and is now on sale. It doesn't matter what it cost, as long as it is not on contract. All you need to do, she said, is phone ATT at 1-800-331-0500, give them the IMEI number and they will send you the unlock code. It also does not matter if you are already with, say, TMobile. You don't need to be with ATT to get the code — just as long as you bought the phone outright.
Hope this helps!
By the way, Amazon shows that there are zero G60s available:
