Just out of curiosity why is UMA so important? I went to the UMA website but could not understand. In layman's terms how does this affect the average user?

To be honest, to the average user it isn't important. If more people knew what UMA was though, I bet they would considerate it an important feature. If you have a wireless network you can use the phone to make calls over WiFi instead of the cellular network. Rogers has two "talkspot" plans which allow for either unlimited local calling or unlimited domestic long distance for $15 and $20 a month respectively. The calls are made over the internet from your phone similar to using Skype or VOIP.
    $17.50 EPP, $30 6GB w/tethering, $20 iPhone Value Pack, $12 100min LD saver

    some clients woudl want it
    I'd want it

if i'm buying the 8520 and I can have it with or without UMA (generic Unlocked will be no UMA) I'd chose the Rogers UMA model if pricing was similar or fairly close

UMA even without the talkspot option is of value to me because you can use wifi to create coverage. Have bad signal in the basement but stong wifi, guess what, younow have strong wifi signal for calls on your ROgers 8520

VERY interesting, thanks for pointing this out. Do you know what causes them to not be capable of UMA?

It won't work because the rogers UMA certificates won't be loaded
As far as I know you can manually load the certificates either

Wow...this is a feature that would interest me. Coverage in my basement is good but I guess it would help if I didn't have to use my minutes. Also, I'm in the US often; if I use wifi there will I still be charged roaming charges?

I personally would want UMA on my phone if it was EDGE and not 3G. But I wouldn't use it too often because it sometimes doesn't stay connected and you get the occasional times where you don't really hear the other person.

Any Private Dealer can match that as well if you already have an established or favorite location just ask them

Walmart has it advertised for $48.xx too...is this an indication of Rogers lowering the price point to $50?? Will they price match for a HUP? Treatz?

Rogers PMing wal-mart? Not a chance!

This only leads the rep to give you a whole lecture about new customer vs. current customer (and your revenue tier) The more revenue you generate for Rogers, the more discount you get for HUP.

I have once asked, what happen if i cancel and open another line? They respond by saying that is spinning but did not further explain the consequence.

In the end, the answer is NO PM.

Rogers charges the client's account directly for upgrades
if i could, i'd pricematch easily, makes my customers a lot happier.

    alas, i can't

on new acts we have room as we can set the pricing based on commissions
