I bought one a week ago and have no regrets. Hands down the best BB I've ever used, including the Bold 9000.

It's 2G yes, but because of excellent blackberry data compression you cannot even tell the difference for most uses. Side by side with my iPhone 3GS, the blackberry consistently loads web pages faster. Also, it gets far better battery life than the 3G versions.

For laptop I use an internet stick so I don't need to tether anymore.

For music, the 8520 has awesome music keys on top of the screen.

All in all, you'll love it.

Actually mine came as an unbranded and unlocked unit from overseas. I just popped my Fido sim in it and registered it, right out of the box.

If you're going to buy a Rogers-branded one, I don't foresee any problems unlocking it. There are plenty of unlocked 8520's from Rogers and T-Mobile on the market at virtually every unlocked phone dealer.

Thanks, just going to wait for the next big thing. The Iphone HD maybe, or something which maybe coming around Jan. The reason I asked about the 8520, was because it wud have been my 1st Blackberry, and it seems very affordable as well. Thanks

Yes, but that would be painful since it's EDGE speeds only.
