Ya I'm located in T.O... I read that it was a problem on Rogers/Fido... are you on one of those networks?
How did I test the incoming text times? I just sent myself a message.. and later some other people had sent me a message. It works after the registry tweak.

Yah, I'm on Fido. I did the tweak and did like you and sent myself a text and it worked. But when I tried to send one via those free online sites I never got the text. So I was and still am a little freaked that somethings up. Will get my friend or a co-worker to text me to see if it still works

Quick question. Is there a way to set the alarm volume? Seems like it's at a default setting no matter what you set the volume at via the side rocker.

I don't think the registry setting would affect u being able to receive a free text. I tried the Rogers free text and it worked for me.

I'm not sure about the alarm. I actually just got the phone yesterday so I'm pretty new to it.

This is a known problem with the phones and older firmwares. You can goto the HTC site and download a patch to fix the problem, or download a newer ROM from HTC (ie, 1.61 or 1.66 depending on what's available for your your phones Serial number) and those should have the fixes already applied.

I’m here in the USA. I have a Verizon phone. I’m ready to jump ship and port over to AT&T with an Aussie HD2. I’ve spent the past few nights reading and learning about flashing the phone. There are 2 things I can’t seem to grasp.

    1. I go online and place an order for the HD2. While it’s in transit, I go to AT&T and get a basic, non smart phone and set up a plan with voice and unlimited data & text…

When the pone arrives, I need to flash it to get the Australian carrier software off the phone. To start I should probably pick a world wide edition of the ROM software. What I can’t seem to figure out is how do I tell the phone, once flashed with the WWE ROM software to work with the AT&T network?

On my Verizon phone, I can go into a hidden menu and setup things like WAP proxy, Internet user ID and so on. I’ve seen no mention of this with regards to the HD2. Is this because of the fact that all this network specific information is stored on the SIM card and does not reside on the phone. Is this the difference between phones without removable sim chips and phones with removable SIM chips?

Please someone clarify this for me.

    2. I’ve read about the gold card method of flashing, SSPL and HSPL. I’ve even made tutorials of each on my PC so I can eventually get the phone to work with a different ROM. I feel like I’m close, but missing the stuff to put it all together. Here’s my second question… When I go to flash the ROM for the first time, how do I know A., know which method to use and secondly which ROM is best for use with AT&T?

Again I hate to sound like a noob, but every experienced flasher needs to start somewhere.
First off, you don't need to flash a new ROM in order to use the phone on AT&T. You must confirm the phone you are buying is "SIM Unlocked", ie, it will allow you to use the SIM card from any carrier.

    1. If it is SIM unlocked, open the phone, put in your AT&T sim, and power on. It will automatically detect the provider ID and ask you if you would like it to auto-configure itself with the proper settings for your provider (all saved in the phone, not the SIM card).

Should you want to modify your settings manually, you can do so by going to the connections screen, menu, all settings, connections... all the set info can be modify through there.

    2. The Gold Card method is the "proper" method for changing ROMs without voiding your warranty. However, you are limited to only being able to change to proper HTC releases. This method is beneficial for people who want to change languages, or flash ROMs from other parts of the world for some reason.

SSPL is a Software SPL which doesn't change the main boot files and allows you to change to any ROM. Some people think this is safer as you don't have to actually change the SPL. In this way it is easier to revert your phone back to normal if you need to send it back for warranty purposes.

HSPL is a Hard SPL which changes the main boot files permanently. This allows you to install any ROM you want, as well as change the Radio files (which is required in some of the newer ROMs to unlock the hidden extra RAM). Also, this you only had to do once. SSPL you need to do each time you want to flash which makes it more likely you may brick your phone. This definately voids your warranty, but is reversible... just a bit harder.

There is no "Best ROM' for AT&T. Each custom ROM is designed by someone at home with their own needs and preferences in mind. As long as the phone is SIM Unlocked, any ROM will work with any carrier. If it is locked, it will also work with any carrier but only with the original SIM and you'll have to pay lots of roaming charges.

My recommendation is avoid flashing for now as most of the new roms don't have much new features to offer since the HD2 is pretty much the latest and greatest already. When you're more comfortable and need something to play with, go ahead and HSPL then flash the roms with the biggest followings which are more known to be stable.

Hey all this phone is the one I've been looking at to replace my iPhone. Yeah I know hiss all you want.

If I'm understanding this correctly I should get the T9193 version in order to use AT&T's 3G service in the states right?

I'm in Southern California if that helps.

    Thanks!

Southern California uses 1900mhz predominantly. T9193 only has the 850 band.

I'm in the Philadelphia area and thinking about getting an HD2. I currently have two AT&T lines, and I'm probably going to ditch my 16GB 3GS. I gave my 32GB to my girlfriend and took her 16 for sale or trade. I don't know which version of the HD2 will be worth it for me. Anyone have any good avenues of purchasing either version? Craigslist is a bust.

Other than eBay, it seems like Personal Digital is the only source for importing one that will work on AT&T's 3G bands. If you don't mind using EDGE only, then cellswholesale.com seems to have the best price for the T8585 version - $659.99 shipped.

I don't think it works on all the 3G bands for ATT though: http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/so...ency-band.html

The Telstra version (t9193) will work on 850mhz 3G only. The Euro version (t8585) will work on Edge speed only here in the US.
