I think it is just the iPhone that gets the plan added if you put your sim in one.

I understand the intent of the new policy. I can't say that I disagree with it, looking from AT&T's position. And if you're on pay-per-use data you'd be nuts to not take $30 unlimited vs. $2 per mb. So I also understand that people would want to use MediaNet instead of real Smartphone data.
But in actual practice, how fast do they automatically tack on the $30 data plan to your account? Is there a warning first? I read something about a text message.
I'd hate to think that I can't borrow a friend's smartphone even for a few minutes with my SIM because as soon as it registers on the network I get hit with $30. That would be ridiculous. I'd hope that there would at least have to be some regular use pattern established first.
Has anyone here had data automatically added yet? After how long?
Thanks.

I'm really unsure of this answer. Someone please clarify.

The new policy is not just iPhones. It's all of their smartphones.Originally Posted by technoevil
But for the sake of argument, fine -- let's say I put my SIM in a friend's iPhone. Does the $30 hit immediately? Is there a warning first? Does it take a while?
I've been using a Blackberry Data plan with my iPhone for a while now. No issues. OLAM even shows my device as iPhone 3G-s but my data plan as BB Personal $29.99Originally Posted by monkey28rb
I've been using 10 dollar family data with multiple smartphones, nothing has changed.
I think the automatic data add may only happen with new smartphones ( like Pure, TILT 2) and forward as it may be subsidy related.
My sister just switched from a w580 to a Blackjack (i607), haven't heard anything yet.
