ok so i just bought a sprint branded HTC hero and I am trying my best to get it on my already existing boost cdma account. I called several times and could not get a CS Rep to do the esn swap, they say an error pops up in their system stating that the phone is not compatible with my service, i have unlimited talk text n web.
Im thinking maybe since the phones official release date isnt until oct 11 their system isnt updated to make the swap, because they cant even tell its an HTC phone.
Anybody had any luck getting the hero on boost? any suggestions help would be greatly appreciated
I believe the phone has to be flashed with a new radio code so it knows to use the boost mobile network. I think its going to be a while before this is done, considering its the first cdma android phone out here...
There a great Boost forum that may have some suggestions. They have been successful in getting other CDMA phones onto Boost and there are tricks to it.
so i posted this on the boostmobile forums too, my thread got replys there but it also got closed i dont know why,
anyways to update,
i called back several times and im pretty sure i got a guy who was in training and im pretty sure he was the one that noted my account about me attempting to activate this phone, when i called again a lady was very hostile towards me and told me only boost mobile phones work on the network, i wanted to tell her she lying cuz i got a lg rumor connected to my account as i was talking to her.......
i called around my area and apparantly verizon wireless has a new prepaid company they own, similiar to the relationship of sprint/boost, and the guy told me its 39.99 a month for unlimited talk n text , regional, and 20mb data a month and he told me he can get my htc hero on that network, also i was told they can flash the htc hero to go on metro pcs....
so i have alternatives, im just saying, main goal for me is boost mobile! i love their service! with the htc hero being able to go on metro im thinking its only a matter of time till someone figures out how to flash it to boost....
I am telling you, there is a lot more to it than just calling up your provider and activating the phone. You are going to have to root the phone and edit some core radio files on that device so it knows what network to run on...
Well I tried the Spanish customer service idea, they were helpful but I still believe my account is noted for some reason cuz they take a while opening my account meaning they are reading the notes.
Anyways......
After letting the lady know that I have Sprint phone on boost already n dat it is possible she said it might be that the Dec number on my hero begins with 2701 n the LG rumor I have connected begins with 2684 , so I'm not to sure what that means or if its ********
Anybody else got anything?
I think mustang might be right !
Anybody know how to do that or can guide me in doing that?
I don't think you need to root the phone. If that's the case then why people connect the touch pro 2 and that came out a few weeks ago? I think you just need to find the right CR for the hero. Call spanish CR all the time and im sure it might work. Im just waiting for someone to connect this baby so i can do the same.
So after calling several times i got an answer saying that they have updated their policy and are not allowed to knowingly activate a non boost mobile phone onto the account.
This has been done many times just keep trying, You will not need to root the phone what ever that means or flash it BOOST. SPRINT same system. SAME COMPANY BOOST and VIRGIN MOBILE USA are now the two prepaid wholey owned operated prepayed for SPRINT NEXTEL corp.
i think its worth mentioning that a guy on craigslist in my area (miami) says he can do it for boost but no pic msg or internet and he charging 100$$$, i havent done it with him cuz i want pic msg n internet n 100$ is pretty steep considering if i wait a lil longer someone will root it n i can probably do it myself for free
I'm not exactly sure what this "Root the HTC Hero CDMA" is accomplishing. Can anyone explain it? I'm just clueless at this point, I'm not trying to complain. Is this something that would eventually allow us to bypass that whole "we can't activate a phone that requires a data plan with Sprint on Boost" thing? AKA phones like the Hero, Palm Pre, Instinct, etc.?
