Being CDMA, the phone still has to be activated by someone working for Boost. Your ESN (Electronic Serial Number) is not going to come up in their system, because it is not one of their phones. That, in itself, is going to throw up a red flag. Repeatedly trying is going to get your account well notated, and make it nearly impossible. I'd become well acquainted with someone working at a corporate retail location. Then one day, in a friendly manner, ask them to activate your phone.

There are two things involved here, one being getting the phone registered to your account. This is the part which requires a "friendly" CS rep. "Rooting" the phone is not going to help here. Good Social Engineering skills will be what gets this done, and if your account has been notated, with the MEID of your Hero, it may not be possible. Carriers don't want to activate outside equipment. It cuts down on their profits!

If you do manage to get your phone added to your account, you are not finished, and here is where the "rooting" part comes in. Most likely, your phone has network settings that are incompatible with Boost Mobile's network, and unless you can change those, it won't matter if they activate your phone or not!

okay u can hook up sprint phones on boost just by calling in and giving them ur esn sprint owns boost and there esn our in boost system.. but only for certain phones newer phones like android phones hero evo ect... are not in boostsystem so they wont b compatible with it... explaining the error they get.. the only way to get it on boost is cloneing the esn witch is against the law
