Can it be tethered out of the box? I guess it won't.

We just got the demo in at the store. I've only played with it for a few minutes, but great screen, thin, love the color scheme on it. Hope to god it's able to be flashed with a generic firmware and be a great 506 successor.

That, and having GPS. Since you have one on hand, can we get a confirmation of a GPS receiver being present?

    Sweet! Thanks for the details.

If it can be debranded like the TM506, Location Services will be moved to the main menu, and you'll have the option of using other apps with the GPS like the excellent Amaze GPS.

    Isn't TM717 based on TM707?

so how will we know if it can be flashed with generic firmware? Is there firmware available for the T707 which closely resembers the TM717?

so how will we know if it can be flashed with generic firmware? Is there firmware available for the T707 which closely resembers the TM717?
Stay tuned with wotanserver or davinci, but I'll go for Hong Kong region fw if it's anailable.

The issue when I tried to use generic firmware on z780i on TM506 was the z780 firmware would not use T-Mobile's 3G band since there was never an AWS z780. (The phone worked fine otherwise.)

I expect the same issue with the TM717. Though I did download generic firmware for T707 from, I think, topsony.com to at least try it out. I'm not optimistic of the result.

Hopefully, T-Mobile won't block too many items and I'll be able to just edit the Customize file to get it in good enough operating condition until TM717 generic firmware is released.

I am positive that SE will release generic fw, like Z780/TM506. Since TM717 is based on T707, SE can release generic fw and comes with many different regions (if generic fw with HK region is released, I'll go for it)
Too bad TM717 doesn't have HSUPA, as it's active now.

TeeJay, I'll check it tomorrow for you. I apologize for the late response, hadn't followed the thread.
