There is no way the STD will be out this month. Trust me, I want it to be out more than you can imagine, but as a litmus test, let's look at the released and leaked info on the Storm 2:
That's a lot of pics and videos. My guess is late November when we will have accumulated this amount of info, implying an impending launch.
The estimated/"known" date for the Storm 2 is in November. Best Buy and other retailers are already getting accessories for the Storm 2, both official and third-party. Business channels can already place an order for a Storm 2...it's here. It's also well before the speculated November date.
STD will release this month or EARLY November. The 800k in some warehouse doesn't play any part in the current stock as the 800k is old hardware. It will be a TP2 like release--online+telesales only for a few weeks (3 weeks is average for Verizon), then store+third-party retailer (all other channels) release.
The TP2 is being pulled by Verizon and HTC (Verizon already has the Imagio as a 6.5 device, with another WinMo6.5 HTC device coming in Q1 2010--a Pro (keyboard) series). STD will either a) replace the TP2 (highly unlikely) or b) test the waters to see how a "pro" Android device will do on Verizon.
In order to do that, they need to give it every chance they can...having a TP2 to compete with it is bad. The Storm lacks a keyboard so it isn't a competitor. November-December (holiday season) will tell how the STD will do, then in Jan the new HTC with keyboard will drop in case the STD turns out to be a total flop. Verizon has a plan, so does Moto. They are working together because one of the companies has everything riding on it, the other has everything to gain from it.

I hope that isn't the case with this one. it'd be great for it to have lines and get some news coverage with a big launch event.

I don't know why you and other people think the TP2 is being pulled....Verizon just ran out because it sold a lot better than they were expecting.

I do believe the demand for the phone is why it's out of stock. Purely anecdotal, take it with a grain of salt but I know of at least 5 people who snatched the TP2 during release. That's without any marketing, advertising, just word of mouth.

Word I received from someone at VZW said it is in fact being pulled. Reason being it will be updated and released with WinMob 6.5 instead of 6.1 and they don't want inventory of 6.1 devices seeing as it is outdated to begin with.
I know in the previous thread, this image was discussed, so it isn't anything new. However, I'm wondering, is this the latest picture of the keyboard available? It doesn't have the silver edge on the phones face, so it isn't one of the early prototypes. Too bad it is so small. It could also be the same prototype shot with some photoshop work. Again, it is too small to really tell.

Ah ok. Yeah thats pretty much what I've been assuming, so its good to get some confirmation on that.
I hope this phone doesn't open up "online" only for the first three weeks. I want to look at the phone in person before I buy. I may or may not like it.

I'm totally with ya there, but if I had to guess I would not be surprised if it is online/telesales only at first tho and will be in stores right before Black Friday.

Its not that simple for me. I'm not currently a Verizon customer.
neither am i, i was thinking if they do online only to not immediately port my number and have one double-month with verizon and at&t to make sure its the phone i want. i'm using my google voice number anyways, so porting my old at&t number isnt really an issue anyway.
When people talk about online/telesales, may I assume that this means the phone would actually ship out to a customer who orders online or via phone, BEFORE the phone is available to buy at a brick and mortar store?
We'll be buying 2 of these phones using my wife's corporate discount (she works for a large bank that negotiated a discount with VZW), and I'm hoping that we can order online or via phone and get a pair of these phones as soon as they are available.
This looks like a great device, the specs are awesome, and like most in this thread, I am seriously considering buying it when it's launched. My other option is a BB 9700, which is another ballpark, I know, but I think the best soon to be released device in that other ballpark. And like any consumer I am flip-flopping my way back and forth so much before the release of either that it's a happy little obsession.
The thing is, there are no videos of this device at all and I've never used android. The research I've done so far though says well I'll probably have to root it, which I only have a half understanding of because people only want to half explain it. This device has better hardware to run the OS, but on the same token, it has better hardware for the OS to support. Sure, Android is newer and fresher than RIM's dated OS but on that same token again, It's only recently showing up on other devices and I would dare say it's still in the refining stages and not yet in the improving stages.
My point is, I don't think I trust it.
So again, I am between this and the stale OS, get it because it functions for communications and I know it will still work if i drop it or do I really need a huge screen and awesome camera or something that I can drain my battery with games on yeah I'm trying to make it sound uncool but I will regret not getting it if I don't.
I've noticed not very many people at all in this thread currently using BB's (on that lil list beside their profile pic) so can anyone elaborate why this is ballpark is better than that ballpark?
Without using the words "business user" or "consumer" because those words mean nothing to me.
