    Web on Dream badly slow

My sister has the Dream, and on numerous sites, it goes very slow, taking several minutes to go to a couple sites. Just wondering what the deal is? It has not been rooted or anything, and it has the $25 data plan.

Can you give us some sites, so we can try it ourselves? Perhaps she is in a bad reception area.

Perhaps the site has a lot of flash on it and it takes the Dream a while to realized it can't render the flash.

Perhaps the browser just doesn't know how to render the site correctly.

Does she have a App that closes all open apps? Like Advanced Task Manager or Task Killer. The Dream will become super slow if you don't close all the open apps. Maybe try that?....

We are in Montreal, so it should be total coverage.

Facebook, for one, and sometimes slow to recognise location on Google Maps.

I believe she only has the one app going at any given point.

You'd be surprised about what's running in the background. If she downloads Advanced Task Manager or Task Killer, she'll be able to see everything that is currents running. In one of the threads here there are some links for Paid Apps (that are not available to purchase for us Canadians yet) including Advanced Task Manager 3.1, which isn't the most recent, but works well. It has a Widget to put on the Homescreen. Clicking in the Widget will kill all running apps and processes (some apps should be put on the Exclude list, as killing them causes them not to function as they should. The Mail app(s) is an example as killing it will cause the push function and notifications to not work). Often, when my phone gets sluggish, I will hit the Widget and it ends 27-35 apps ect! Phone runs much faster after til after I use a bunch of apps.

Having an App that closes all running apps when needed is one of the necessary apps on Android phones. I'm sure everyone will agree.....

Yea, you should get some sort of task manager. I use Taskiller and always kill all apps when I'm done using them. Also, I've noticed the browser works slowly if you only have 2 bars. Unless you have 3+ bars, I find the browser will hang a lot. Almost seems like the browser needs at least 3 bars for it to work properly.

it's funny that this OS is suppose to be multitasking, yet everyone downloads a task manager to force close the apps anyways. so whats the point?

anyways, yes the browser is full, it's downloading the full webpage like your computer does. maybe download speedtest by xtremelabs and see what kind of speeds your getting in your area.

if your on the rogers stock rom...multitasking sucks. also you can only multitask to a limit...5-10 apps yeah sure...20+ is a little excessive

When I power my Magic on, I click on the Advanced Task Manager widget and it ends 26 running apps ect. 26!!! Just from powering on the phone. It usually has 6 processes running in the background that will restart.

A task killing app is a necessity on these Android phones......

sounds like the OS needs further optimizing for the ARM processors

I find android manages processes quite well. I don't find it useful to close apps at all.

I tried using task killer and advanced taskmanager to close apps when I'm done with them, but I didn't notice a speed increase at all.

If any difference, my most frequently used apps now take longer to load, because I have removed them out of memory. We have RAM for a reason...why not use it?

If something needs more memory, it will automatically close the least used apps.

My phone currently has an uptime of 300+ hrs with no signs of slow downs.

If you guys are experiencing slow downs, check the apps you have installed to ensure they aren't the culprit.

For example, I had to uninstall sportstap because I noticed it slowed my phone down over time.

Also, if any of you guys are using the original Rogers cupcake ROM, disable network location (GPS is ok)...there is a known bug with it that causes high CPU and memory usage over time. This has supposedly been fixed by some custom ROMs and Donut.
