Typically Microsoft throws the "point oh" at WinMo if any real significant changes end up under the hood, so it's all mostly small stuff.

So from the looks of it... the OS is pretty much the same. THE GUI was refreshed. and for the worst. blah !
Why would a touch pro 2 user want to upgrade to 6.5 the gui is all HTC anyway. ?
You got a good point, though some may want the new mobile IE with flash. You can take your point further though. HTC is going to make Sense the standard UI on both WM and Android phones. If the average user can't tell if they're running WM or Android under the hood and don't really care and HTC gets to use Android for free (HTC pays a license fee to Microsoft for ever WM phone it sells) and Android is being refreshed and improved by Google on a frequent basis (when will we see WM 7?), how long will HTC stick with WM?
Happiness and Freedom are Nonexclusive, Jailbroken, Unlocked, and Pay as You Go!
I've been running for several months. It's not much of an improvement at all. I tried to even use the new Today screen. It is so difficult to get to text messages. Why would they hide them like that?
Anyway, I'm done with WM as soon as the Sholes hits.

This is the same point I made on another tread about upgrades to 6.5 a while ago. I've got a T-Mobile TP2 and the ROM is pretty rock solid. I've had it a month and I haven't flashed it yet. I have no desire to upgrade to 6.5 because TouchFlo is what makes this phones interface so great anyway. There's just no benefit in upgrading with Sense or TouchFlo running the show.
iphanboys are having a field day laughing at M$ and, unfortunatley, it's all warranted. What a joke! The company that practically invented the smart phone doesn't give a crap about their own product.

I really dont understand this comment. What is so hard about tapping "Text Messages" on the new 6.5 today screen to bring you right into the app?

What kills me is they abandoned the home screen concept, which was the best feature the phone had to begin with. They basically made it one very confusing menu (like the Media center on the PC)
I bet you that iphone next gui revamp will have some sort of a "Home" page with list of appointments weather and other custom fields.
You know you can disable the default home screen and revert back to the old style, right? As simple as unchecking Windows Default in the today screen options and reenabling your desired plugins. If so desired you can install your preferred shell application.

Didn't know that
But now you go back to the core question... then what's the difference? why upgrade?
Mobile shell 3 or 3.5, either you are a fan of it or not. If you've never tried it you should.
imho titanium is terrible and very unuser friendly. tf3d marginally better.

After using it for several months the differences are pretty nice IMO. I personally love the new home screen (yes you can turn it off). It elevates the most common things I do with my device right to the home screen and it looks like was not from 1987. Add to that all of the big finger friendly menus, Marketplace and MyPhone (yep available on more then just 6.5) and together its a pretty nice little upgrade. Revolutionary.. nope, but definately evolutionary.
Funny story, a friend handed me his 6.1 TP and asked me to help him with a few things. After using 6.5 for a while, I actually found it difficult to navigate around the TP lol. 6.5 has definately grown on me.

Because someday there'll be an app you want to run that requires 6.5.
As you say, if you're going to use the TP2 GUI, it really doesn't matter if 6.1 or 6.5 is hiding underneath, so why not upgrade and take advantage of whatever 6.5-specific software is (eventually) out there, like Live for Mobile.
An OS is an OS- it's all about the software you want to run. If it wasn't for software compatibility issues, I'd probably still be using WM2003-based devices!
(Kidding aside, WM2003, IMO, was the pinnacle of WinMo- the high-point between speed, functionality, and low system requirements. It was sort of the Windows XP of mobile OSes!)

But, in many ways, you hit the nail on the head- the Today Screen (with its "1987 looks" or not) was very functional and one of the great features of WM. Change is good, but change just for change's sake isn't. The first thing I'll do when forced to upgrade to 6.5 is disable the "Zune theme" and go back to the 1987 Today screen!
I've said it before and I'll say it again: if I'd wanted an iPhone, I'd have bought an iPhone- I wish MS and OEMs would stop "iPhonifying" Windows Mobile!
The PPC style Home screen is old and tired. TF3D is marginally better. Titanium is a move in the right direction,IMO. But a new home screen isn't enough to refresh the twenty-year old OS. Anyone bet great hope for WM6.5 will be disappointed. Even MS down played the importance of WM6.5. WM7 is where the action really is. 6.5 is desktop equivelent of WinME.
The preference of UI is very personal. TF3D looks like crap to me. I turned it off right away. Some like simplistic yet still useful home screen. Some like jam screen full of icons and gadgets. Luckily, WM6.5 give you the choice to do either way, an advantage that WM6.1 can't offer.
