But, in many ways, you hit the nail on the head- the Today Screen (with its "1987 looks" or not) was very functional and one of the great features of WM. Change is good, but change just for change's sake isn't. The first thing I'll do when forced to upgrade to 6.5 is disable the "Zune theme" and go back to the 1987 Today screen!
Ditto. I definitely bounce between TF3D, SPB MS 3.5, about a half dozen other set-ups. But always in the mix (and for extended periods of time) is the good old WM1987. The day they take away the 1987 option is the day I move on.
I use MS 3.5 on 6.5 (not impressed with TF3D or Titanium) and so have the same basic home screen UI that I did under 6.1, but I do still like 6.5 better. There are a couple of things. First, it's much more responsive and using finger gestures work smoothly as if the OS was made for it. Under 6.1, it was always obvious that the way the screen interpreted my finger gestures was like a foreign language to it. Another thing I like is that they've spaced out a lot of the menus so they now give me room to work with my finger instead of the stylus. Lots of it still has the old look, but it's more functional for me because of the spacing of the menus and such. It's not a major revolution or anything, but since I needed a new phone, I prefer having 6.5 to another phone with 6.1.
You know you can disable the default home screen and revert back to the old style, right? As simple as unchecking Windows Default in the today screen options and reenabling your desired plugins. If so desired you can install your preferred shell application.
Say ... You know how to disable the stupid honeycomb program lists ?
Who thought of that and said hmmm that's a great idea.

Some actually like the honeycomb. I'm not one of them, just agree that it is not an upgrade. MS3.5 is pretty much the upgrade I prefer. But to each their own.

No, I dont but I have seen replacement start menu's that are more in line with the old style. Personally though, I like it and dont see the issue compared to the old start menu. I can move my most used programs to the top for easy access unlike the old program menu list which lists alphabetically with no way to easily change the order and the recently used list only had a limited number of slots and if you wanted to use a program not on that list you had to go back to the start menu and scroll to that program. Both methods have their respective pros and cons.

I see you're point of being able to rearrange them. That's actually quite nice. Still would prefer a grid type.
I like 6.5 better than 6.1, no question. I still like Mobile shell better than the interface on either of them though. And I am not a fan of Touch Flo.
SPB Mobile Shell is the way to go. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Microsoft buys them out. Or maybe HTC buys them out someday.
If you haven't tried it though, you're missing out. Especially with the finger friendliness of WM 6.5.
the 6.5 startmenu (honeycomb) is a freaking mess!
on 6.1 startmenu, everything is alphabet order, isnt that easier to find things?
about moving most used programs to the top on 6.5, on 6.1 you can set the 7 most used program to show when you click start and list the most recents used programs under it.

Plus you could just type the first letter to jump to it.
i use Acer F900 "quick menu" (3 icons in 1 row) which is better than this freaking honeycomb which is a mess!
and you decide to put which program you want on each icon.
on honeycomb, you move the icon to the top, then all your icons moved to different place. so u have to look around again to find what u looking for!
After 4 days with the Tilt 2, I really like 6.5 but can't get used to the new start menu at all. It's the main reason I kept coming back to 6.1 cooked roms vs. 6.5 on my other devices. Not quite ready to head to the kitchen just yet (although soon) though. So in the meantime I reverted back to an old favorite, QuickMenu 2.8. It's the old style start menu plus a whole lot more and there's an option to 'replace the start menu' which, when you press the start button, it gives you this QuickMenu instead so you never have to see the new honeycomb dealio. There's also an option to adjust the spacing so it's finger friendly. http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-...menu-v2-7.html

I agree...nice eye candy that doesnt have a good functional feeling/design....seemed to slow my cell down aswell. If the lag was fixed & it was set where u could arrange ur icons liking as u would a pc it wouldnt be so bad.
