Best Time of Year to Buy a New Phone?

I am looking for opinions on when people think the best time of year is buy a new phone? Some people have said back to school, others Christmas, and others the spring?

My observation is that it's been Christmas for the last few years. Valentines used to be good and September, if the client is a student, but Dec has offered the best deals.

This year, the market place will be very much disrupted by possible 2 or 3 new carriers and the buzz around the new Bell/Telus network. It will be very interesting to watch. If December sales fail to meet targets, February could be nice again. Of if December is a roaring success because of discounts, spring may be a time to restore profit margins. It will be fun to watch.

in my opinion it would have to be during christmas time, i would say roughly from the 20th of december to new years eve, they sometimes have new deals everyweek. you can also notice that it is during this time of the year that you see alot of advertisements from phone companies.

also i would like to add like gayjock mentionned above if the are not enough sales over the christmas time then they will have other plans and price drops throughout january and some times february. february is also the time that alot of stuff is a little cheaper because some people receiving their credit card bills in january from the christmas season and people tend to be cautious about their money spending.

Back-To-School is only good if you qualify for a Student Plan, otherwise all the good stuff comes for Christmas.

hmm... I've always found February to May to be the best time... stores are quiet... no crowds...just run in, put down the plastic/cash and go... Assuming that is you're taking advantage of a hardware upgrade or some sort of deal you don't have to finagle for...

Best time to shop, maybe, but not the best prices. If the customer is going in with an upgrade/renewal offer, then it's whenever the offer is valid. I think all the carriers differ on when in a contract they start to offer retention bonuses and it also differs by how much you spend a month.

Jaded but truthfully best time is when you need a new phone
If you miss one great sale there is always another coming soon (& possibly newer hardware)

Dont ever let a dealer push that 7 day or 24 hour line on you
A real pro will look beyond a quick high pressure commision driven sale

Better than last year's? Considering the new prices for voice and data (serious hike), I doubt that they're going that way. (sorry to dash your hopes)

Although it would be nice to get better than what I have now, since it might give me a reason to re-up and migrate to HSPA.
