I get to the file system, using either C or 2+5. When I use 2+5 it says BOOTROM MODE DETECTED. What's the difference between that and using C?

    Someone please help me..

First off i want to say i have had this phone for about 5 days and i love it..

I am with T-Mobile and i have the even more plan unlimmited talk and text for $59.99.

I do not have web and nor do i care for it. Thats what my PC is for.

Anyway, my questions might sound ridiculous, but I'm not a phone geek so i need to know..

Am i using the web if i... use the FM radio, use youtube, email, Send/Recieve pic messages from other phones or email, browse pics/video's/music etc in the entertainment section...???

I need to know because I don't want to be charged for web usage.

Also is their a way to get AM radio feeds? Kind of a drag not having AM.

    Thank You

First of all, T-Mobile doesn't charge you for data unless you specifically add it to your account. If a data plan is not on your account, anything needing data simply won't work. So there's no worry about unwanted charges.

FM Radio does not use data. YouTube would need data to be able to stream videos. You would also need data to use Google Maps with the phone's built in GPS.

Picture messages do not use a data plan. You get unlimited picture messages included with your unlimited texting plan so you can send as many of those as you want.

Any pics/videos/music that is installed on the phone is free for you to look at and browse. You can connect the phone to your computer with the enclosed USB cable and you can copy music over to the phone to use the phone as a mp3 player.

There's free software on the Sony Ericsson website called pc suite that you can download if you're interested in doing this.

You can get a 4GB M2 memory card for around $15 on ebay. That will give you plenty of storage. AM radio is not available, but many AM programs put mp3 files of their shows online. Again you can copy those to the phone and listen to them on the go.

Thank you very much for the info. I really do appreciate it. Why would I need PC suite if I can already add music/pics/vids to my phone through the usb cable?

The SE PC Suite does the following:

The Sony Ericsson PC Suite connects your phone to your computer so you can manage and backup personal data, connect to the Internet, handle messages, browse files on your phone and more.

If you do not need those features and you're able to add files to your phone without it, then you would not need to download it.

NOOB question. I just bought the equinox and want to modify the keys. I text but don't use the web2go. How can I change the initial screen to go to text messaging rather than web2go on pressing the right softkey.

There's not an easy way to change the right soft key that I've seen. But you can create a quick shortcut on the navigation pad (assuming you don't have the myfaves interface activated.)

For example, I just hit left on the nav pad and the window to write a text pops up. You can do this in settings\general tab\shortcuts.

i've been having some trouble connecting my equinox via usb. I keep getting the limited/no connectivity symbol for the connection. A few tries later it worked again, but now it doesn't. However, I can still connect through PC Suite easily. Is it just my computer?

    Thanks.

It could be your computer. The only trouble I've had with it not connecting is when I had another connection that I was trying to connect, or when the phone had an application that was trying to use data at the same time.

When you say you're connecting with PC suite, all it does is use the dial up networking connection that is in your connection folder (Go to Start\Connect to\Show all connections to see the folder.

You should be able to dial the connection directly from that folder without using PC suite.

You can also watch the status of the ethernet emulation connection in that window when you connect your phone.

thanks for the info. I guess I thought dialing the connection wouldn't allow me to talk on the phone and tether through internet at the same time but it looks like it does. I will use that from now on when I have trouble with the usb connection. Thanks again!

it's weird that tethering with the tm506 works better than the equinox for me...i keep getting a slow connection with the equinox and it doesn't recognize it through usb. I do like the way the equinox handles text messaging though. Maybe I'll just have to get another tm506.

So, my TM506, which I love, is almost dead, and is no longer offered by Tmo, so I'm thinking about the Equinox. I played with the equinox when first released, and wasn't all that impressed, but I'm hoping that debranding has helped. Because of the 506's photo geotagging feature, I used the camera a lot--low rez, but the color was pretty good, and the location would be pinned on google maps. The equinox's color seemed off. More importantly, I couldnt use java apps like gpsed to generate a gps track (I think Telmap Navigator Beta was also not working, which really sucked). In my area, I also got worse 3g reception than with the 506, resulting in slower tethering speeds. So has debranding helped with any of this? Sorry if I have duplicated any questions--any feedback is truly appreciated!

Well we haven't really debranded the Equinox like we did with the TM-506. With the TM-506, Sony Ericsson released a generic firmware. There's been no generic firmware release yet that I have found. So all we've done is modify the existing customize file and the menus, etc.

I don't know if you debranded your TM506 per the wiki, but SD had found an optimized camera driver that you put on the phone in step 4. Perhaps the Equinox needs the same thing to make it's pictures look better. Someone tried the one listed for the TM506 on the Equinox and that didn't work.

As far as gps apps not working, I'm not really sure what was blocking their installation. I played around with deleting some security certificates, but that didn't seem to help. Installation of apps is not really something I have a lot of knowledge about.
