Once you see the shortcut you want to edit (up, down, left or right), then it takes you to the main menu, then if you want to create one for the calendar, you find the calendar item, place the cursor over the item, and hit the left soft key that will be labeled, Shortc. Then it will create the shortcut.

You're probably pressing Select instead and that's when you get the Can't go further message.
