some folks I know have plenty of girth and feel great. some folks I know are sooo in shape but so paranoid and anal about their health they are miserable and are a stress stroke/heart attack waiting to happen.
quality of life is much more important than quantity and longevity.
I just hope when I die its on a bicycle in the woods, whether 46,96 or somewhere in between. in shape or not.

I am still happy being fat. Life is good and I enjoy my food.

Back about 15 years ago I spent nine months exercising 1 hr per day. It was torture. Sure I lost a lot of weight, but I spent all my time dreading the exercise. It was very depressing living like that. I finally decided I would rather drop dead at that moment than get back on the rowing machine. I also tried jogging, that was even worse.

That was the last time I worked out. Fall of 1997.

I retired from my job of 28 years in September, 2010. Within about six weeks I gained 12 pounds. I joined a health club (Snap Fitness) and began working out. I try to get in four or five times a week. I have lost about 35 pounds and I feel much better.

Awesome! I think the key here is that different lifestyles work well for different people to maximise happiness and an overall feeling of wellness. The trick is experimenting to find out what works well for you.

Many people overgeneralise from their own experience and assume everyone is like them. That fallacy leads to all sorts of weird contradictory advice.

Many think that being fit means being thin. That is not the case. Even fat people can be fit. Each and every body has its own way of working.

I would just feel uncomfortable... Besides I do like to exercise and I never really had that problem...
I guess everyone should just stay the way they are happy ^^"

Lol I cannot believe you are serious. I still love food and enjoy it very much, but even if I decide to indulge and eat like crap every once in a while, exercising regularly just makes you feel good and improves your self confidence. You really don't enjoy being fat, because if you were in amazing shape you would actually enjoy that a lot more. As for working out being depressing, I find it enjoyable to improve yourself and grow endurance and capabilities as a human being. I used to think like you but then I woke up out of my haze and decided to stop lying to myself that I was happy with my current fitness.

You should try playing sports or other fun activities where you are enjoying yourself, and you forget you are working out and burning calories. Being lazy is not a good way to live your life, not fulfilling.

I am glad you enjoy exercising and challenging yourself physically. This is great!

See. the thing is, I have been in good shape. I know exactly what it feels like from that period where i exercised vigorously for one hour every day. You are making the mistake of generalising from your experience to all other humans. For better or for worse, we are different people.

I have never found playing sports fun, even as a kid. That just takes exercise into the extroverted realm.

You don’t have to reduce your food to be healthy or fit. Enjoying life is the most important thing. Eat whatever you can and do little workout to either maintain your physic or to reduce your weight. You need not do heavy workout everyday to maintain your body. Just few minutes jogging or long distance quick walk can maintain your body very well. Heavy workout is for those who want to tone their muscles.

I posted the above about a month ago. I want to add: In November 2010, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. I was provided with a device to check it everyday at home. I am not on medication for blood pressure. My blood pressure is now within normal range about 80% of the time. I am convinced that the exercise and weight loss are the reasons for the improvement.

I totally agree with you. Exercise and weight loss are the main reasons behind reduction of your blood pressure. Even doctors would have advised you to reduce your weight and intake of salt. Did you reduce the intake of salt in your food item? That is the main thing that doctors would advice to those having high BP.

No, I haven't made any change in salt intake.
