Hmmm. My Nokia E71 I'm using on Fido should work with the new Telus Network. I took the battery off and according to the Nokia Europe the E71-2 has WCDMA 850/1900 HSDPA.

yes no doubt, the e71-2 will

    Telus officially offers this device....

however, unlike the e72-1, the e71-1 will not work on the HSPA network, it's only 2 mode and does not offer 1900...

contrary to what some might think, thus far the absence of 850 from my e72-1, based on my use, is a non issue.....

so we know its 850 and 1900....is there a map that shows where the 850 band works best and where the 1900 does? (for Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, etc....)?

we know that devices with 900-1900-2100 could work but would have partial coverage....can you actually determine where such a device will work?
RF maps like this are hard to get and usually confidential. I tried getting some for Rogers once for my area and I was unable to get them.

1900MHz only is only limited in some areas as some areas might not have 1900MHz deployed and only 850MHz

well, it's good news for me, and i'm not even sure i'll swap for the NAM when it becomes availalble...my experience over the past few days has increased usability of the e72-1 to 98% from 90%....

So if I understand correctly, only the "green" bands are used for the Telus HSPA/3G+ network. So, a HTC Touch Pro 2 would NOT be able to use this network because it has the followings specs: EVDO Rev A 3G (800/1900 MHz)
    UMTS/HSPA (2100 MHz) GSM/ EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz).

But with a new TP2 (to come), if I can't use the HSPA network (it's ok for the 3G network), why to I need to get a "new" plan, instead of my actual CDMA voice plan plus, let's say, an added data plan like the Package 20 (unlimited data) or something else? The 3G network was there before the HSPA network... I'm getting all confused...

Hey all, been reading all threads like a crazy man trying to catch up. A dealer told me that unlocked phones may not work properly as far as internet and texting etc... goes, as well as having to be set up again if you ever run your battery down? Can anyone shed some light on this. Forum search is leading to alot of info just not the right kind.

    Thanks!

    NB

In case anyone's interested, the e63 (North American) works great. So far have tested it for voice and texts. Will try wifi once I remember my base station's password. So far, it's a great phone and the keyboard rocks. You can pick em up for around two hundred bucks too, so they won't break the bank. Very happy with my purchase.
