Saygus VPhone V1
According to an FCC filing, the next Android device for Verizon may be the Saygus (who?) VPhone V1. While this has yet to be confirmed, the evidence is pretty convincing. Saygus’ own web site talks about a third Android device coming to Verizon (link – Unstrung News Analysis).
Apparently the device doesn’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack, though peripherals can be connected via its mini USB port [yawn]. From the available pictures, I find this phone to be a tad on the ugly side. I’m sure the final build will be nice though. After all, it has to live up to Verizon’s standards, doesn’t it? [sarcasm]
Here are the known specs…
* Slide out keyboard
* 3.5″ 800×480 capacitive touchscreen
* 634MHZ Marvell PXA310 processor
* 5MP autofocus camera
* 512MB ROM and 256MB RAM
* MicroSD slot
* WiFi
* Bluetooth
* GPS
* Accelerometer
* Digital compass
* FM radio
* Front facing camera (for video calls?)
The one thing that excites me about this phone is the front facing camera. I’ve always said that implementing video chat has to be a priority for phone makers. I guess it may soon be a reality.
Man, I hope not. That is more than one step backwards.
that thing looks ugly as sin and looks like it might have the thickness of a brick. Ill choose between the Droid and the Passion, if and when it comes out.
FM radio is moderately interesting. I honestly don't understand why this isn't in more phones given how cheap and easy it is to whack one in. Other than that, I agree that thing is ugly. Though it looks like a lot of the people whining about the Droid keyboard would probably be a lot happier with that one.
The rumor I read about the 3rd phone was it was coming from a smaller manufacturer that was taking advantage of the standards Verizon published for anyone that wanted to make 3rd party handsets to work on their network, looks like this may be it.
Matt
video calls nice!
hope we dont pay extra to use it
I know I'm about a month late on this one... was searching for something else and found this link. The image in the OP link is kinda crappy, but the official website has a few more pics. Not a whole lot better, but at least a little bit: http://saygus.com/vphone
I guess it's just the start of the open development program. who knows what random no-name (and probably cheap) devices will come out in the next year or so
edit: probably has to be that thick for the 2 video cameras, FM radio antenna, bumped out qwerty buttons, and 1500 mAh battery. Looks like a cheap Voyager with Android pretty much haha
