Ok I can confirm it is a date bug.
Just set mine back a couple of days to Nov 15th and I get mostly red corners.
If I set to today's date, green corners all the time!

    Creepy bug

Wow, I was going to make a tinfoil hat comment when I originally saw that post, but I tried it and the guy is right on the money. Holy crappy code, Batman. So much for the silent OTA fix theory.

ok but what about the people who already had green corners to begin with what would happen to them with this "bad code" theory??

I need more of your Droid owners to try this out for me before I'll believe it...

A date bug would explain why the leaks we got early said the camera was great, but the people that got review ones a few days before launch had all sorts of problems with it. If the engadget commenter is correct, then the bug didn’t even start until Oct 26 at noon. With less than two week until launch, and the adds already stared, there wasn’t much that could be done.

The only thing about this that confuses me is what on earth the autofocus routine was doing using the date. Is it grabbing the photo time stamp for the picture at the time of focus? I would think that would be captured at the time of the second stop push to ensure the most accurate timing, and then putting that into the jpeg container at the same time as the image. Getting it at time of focus would be highly inaccurate if someone pre-focused the cam waiting for something to happen. Though that would explain what my phone was doing. It appeared to overshoot the focus point, so if there was a delay caused by a faulty time stamp routine it could delay the phone from stopping the lenses at the correct point.

But that's just an EE thinking. I'm sure the software people had there reason for it.

Edit: I googled the guy that made the post, and he'd be the one to know. He works on the android team.

At least we now know 100% that it is a software issue that should be an easy fix.

Yeah my coworker pointed this out to me and I experienced the same thing, change the date = no focus.

A time stamp bug is pretty weird, but definitely seems to be the case. My picures are coming out with a lot more clarity, which is also weird since I had bad picture quality when it focused before.

LOL. Funny how it was posted TODAY. It's obviously just a coincidence that someone happened to try cleaning the lense on the same day the coding/date issue cured itself for a while. I clean my lense religiously and it certainly never helped.

So basically if the 24.5 day rule is true, the bug will show up just before the 12/11 update.

Seriously, this is floating all the way to the top and it's NOT helpful.

I can't believe someone actually believed this.

I can't figure out which is more bizarre - that any of these companies would slip a midnight OTA upgrade without any change in SW rev or that an autofocus bug could be the result of some sort timestamp issue.
