You cant set the date forward, when you try, it looks like you did it however when you return to the settings it comes up with today's date
Take it off automatic update(using network) and turn it on airplane mode. mine has said 12/12/09 for an hour. At this point im working and cant give a screen shot.
Everyone's been complaining about the auto focus blah blah blah,
I am VERY disappointed in its camera sharpness.
Honestly I took a picture with autofocus on (it was green) and compared it to my old enV which is 2 megs and really it was only slightly better. Honestly, this is a disappointment how is this 5 megapixels when it shoots like 3? Will they fix this in the rumored December upgrade????? Does anyone else notice this, maybe it's just mines.
You cant get a "sharp" pic. without some kind of focus
You know all those Droid reviews that heaped glowing praise on everything except the camera? All those reports of issues with getting it to focus?
Many sources are reporting that Droid owners awoke to cameras that suddenly worked perfectly today. Was it a silent patch? Did the lens just need a cleaning?
Nope. Google’s Dan Morrill explained that the camera issues have been pinned down to a date-related bug:
There’s a rounding-error bug in the camera driver’s autofocus routine (which uses a timestamp) that causes autofocus to behave poorly on a 24.5-day cycle. That is, it’ll work for 24.5 days, then have poor performance for 24.5 days, then work again.
The 17th is the start of a new “works correctly” cycle, so the devices will be fine for a while. A permanent fix is in the works.
So, Droid owners, enjoy your cameras while you can, and hopefully you’ll see the issue permanently resolved soon.
As noted, still doesn't explain why I (and others) had Droids w/green bars from day 1...or why two of four droids on display at a VZW store last night were green, the other two red, or why the replacement Droid I took home w/me yesterday after work also had green bars before the date change.
Odd...if it was a date issue you'd think it would affect all Droids the same...
But more work needs to be done, the pics are still not nearly as good as my son gets from his 2MP Env2 camera...that is a very nice camera.

It is definitely better in camera mode, with barcode scanner and with shop savvy, but the latter two still zoom and focus a lot. I also noticed now if I take a close-up picture with the flash on it will light the top third of the item, and the bottom third will be dark or completely black. This didn't used to happen.

Next month (after the 'real' OTA upgrade) I'm planing on doing a new Cameraphone Comparison Review.
I'll probably use the Motorola Droid, HTC Droid Eris, HTC Imagio, and Samsung Rogue (or enV Touch).
If the Samsung Omnia II is out by then, they I might use that one too.
Shopsavy still does the same zoom in zoom out cycle it did before.
I was able to get it to work a few times but I really had to fight it.
I had the same problem. Make sure you have the latest version of Shop Savvy (3560.) After I downloaded the newest version, and believe it or not, cleaned off the lense, it worked much faster and consistantly.
wow... count me in for my camera focusing now... I saw the green lines maybe three times since i've owned it, didn't get red bars once when I fiddled around with it

I had that same flash problem. I noticed it when I first got the phone though. Haven't seen it since(and I got it on launch day). The top third of the pic is lit, the bottom 2/3 is completely black. I rebooted the phone and it didn't seem to do that after though and I haven't had that problem since then.
It's strange because before I went online today, I was taking some pics at work. I noticed right away that the phone seemed to be focusing A LOT easier. It wasn't as bad as others had claimed before, but I probably focused about 70% of the time. Now it seems to focus every time.
