I had the same problem. Make sure you have the latest version of Shop Savvy (3560.) After I downloaded the newest version, and believe it or not, cleaned off the lense, it worked much faster and consistantly.
My testing was with the latest version of shop savy and a clean lense.
Mine works for the moment... you are a brave individual for saying your is 100%. NOTHING is 100% in life except the fact, on a long enough time line, there is a 100% chance you will die.
So I get the green bars and the camera works pretty fast now, but the focus mechanism still clicks loudly and the pictures don't come out any better than before.
Wow. If this is indeed a hardware issue, the number of phones effected is staggering. Think I'm trading mine in today.
Wow, I'm an idiot. My Droid is kind of hard to push all the way though, so I hadn't even realized there was a second level to push to. I find it difficult to push it that hard without shaking the camera, kind of defeating the purpose. At least the mystery is solved. Thanks!
no more difficult than a normal digicam, my inlaws though are button slappers, handed them a camera once or twice and got back all blurry pictures because they can;t push halfway to focus.
Mine's definitely harder to press than any of my digicams or my dSLR. I'll try another one to see if mine has an issue. Or maybe I just need to eat my Wheaties. 0_o
Most of my issues with the camera are solved now, so I'm happy. I'm not too concerned with PQ (although more is always welcome).
This is nice. Now the autofocus appears to work, but now the preview is very dark while lining up the shot. Anyone else notice this?
And is there a way to silence the shutter noise? It's so loud! My actual camera allows me to silence it. This should, too. Then again, sound flexibility seems to be Android's weak point.
I had focus issues since Nov. 6. Now it focus all the time with adequate lighting and performs consistently. My Droid's build date is 3909 if that has any meaning.

I would also suggest downloading "AudioManager Widget" from the Market.
On the screen you will see audio settings for alarm, music, alerts, ringer, system, and voicemail.
You cal turn the System volume down to 0, so there will be no sound from the camera, but at the same time your call ringer will work.
