I have two droids, mine and the wife's, and neither of them focus for crap. I really enjoy the phone and am undecided whether or not I'll return the camera. I figure I'll wait till I'm closer to the 30 day return limit.

    Question

Mine has some issues focusing, but more so with the white balance...

A cropped picture with white balance set to Auto

Auto with Flash Under Flourescent light

Do you see the green ^^^ towards the middle/right...

Daylight with Flash (same actual light source)

Color looks closer to the actual light... not as much if any green in the middle

Taken with my Canon 6MP Point and Shoot w/Flash

Is this a hardware issue or software only??
I also get the clicking on startup, did not seem clear from these threads if thats bad hardware or what...

Those of you who voted "No problems" and others with no camera problems: It would be great if we could get more input from you.

What's the build date on your phone? It's under the battery on the big label under the third bar code.

Mine's 41/09 and I have lots of clicking and no focusing.

What's odd is the demo unit at a VZW store near my house would nearly ALWAYS show green corners and was a typical good cell camera.

But MY unit that I actually purchased from BestBuy does NOT focus NOR ever show green corners.

    Damn!

By the way, my unit is: 42/09

Thanx for that, XIV. Maybe we can determine if this is definitely a hardware issue or not, and if so, if and when they fix this with newer builds.

I am all about this phone, but I still find it hard to believe even 14 people HAVE NO CAMERA ISSUES AT ALL.... i've had 2 droids, one was faulty and crashed/rebooted every 20 or so minutes, but my new one hasn't crashed a single time and I love it... but both cameras were absolutely horrendous... both click like crazy and never focus, I was at a Oregon Duck basketball game last night trying to take a picture in a completely lit environment, and even when there was very little motion, it wouldn't focus at all, in 5 minutes of trying to take a pic one time it got green corners the worst part is my camera wont take pictures unless it gets green corners, so I got zero pictures

ridiculous, im praying it is a software fix

I have 42/09 as well and my phone almost always gets green corners and takes nice photos. I've tried photos at various distances and light levels and it focuses correctly 90% of the time. While fooling around, I took a picture of a florescent light in the ceiling and it came out sharp, but it had these dark transparent bars throughout the image. Don't know if that is normal... My camera also makes noise when focusing, but it's not too loud and doesn't bother me.

def not a steady hands issue, the camera sounds like it is dieing when it tries to focus, and it is a 1/10 issue, 9 times it wont focus

Although I have green corners most of the time, my images still have soft focus and a lot of grain. This is especially true indoors where light is not abundant.

In case you haven't seen it, here's a leaked document that lists fixes planned for OTA on Dec 11 and Jan 22.

The Camera Autofocus issue should be fixed on the Dec 11th update.

When I was at verizon store waiting to pick up my droid, I played with the models they had. 2 of them always had red corners. 1 had green most of the time.

My camera seems to have green corners most of the time and focuses well. The pictures quality is not super hot, especially in low light, but it's a phone! I do have clicks on startup and it says 39/09 in the back??

The camera is shockingly pathetic- literally. I can't wait for the fix.

Not sure whats going on with mine, but it WAS Ok. I took a dozen or pics and there where average, not bad. I just tried to take a picture and it is making a different noise then before. Before it would click and focus, sometimes I would get green markers, but mostly red and then click it would take a picture. Now when I aim and press the button I barely hear anything but a very very slow noise like it it trying to try and focus but doesnt finish and then it wont take a picture at all. WTF??

UPDATE: so I just went and looked in the gallery and all the pictures that I thought I wasnt taking well evidently it was taking them but w/o the click noise.

i rarely get green corners... but I am still able to take pretty decent pictures... they are a little soft. My omnia had a bit better focus but overall the pictures come out pretty decent... good enough for facebook and such.

P.S. The videos come out excellent.
