    HTC Hero experiences?

Hi all, was wondering if anyone care to comment on Telus' HTC Hero?
I'm contemplating purchasing iPhone or Hero and wanted to know what everyone's experiences are with the Hero, thanks.

    Interested in some similar feedback!

Considering between the iPhone and the Hero. With the iPhone, I know what I'll be getting (and I know I'll like it), but the Hero running Android is appealing to me as a heavy google user (gmail, gcal, contacts, etc).

Any impressions of the Hero on Telus so far? Speed, performance?

    Thanks!

Well I got a hero the first day and I love it. Its a lot faster then the ones I have seen in reviews(Europe model). I have many icons/widgets on the home screen and no lag, even with music running.

The battery life is good, it lasts about two days and I'm a heavy user.

The keyboard is great, on par with the iphone/touch's keyboard.

If your like me and use google stuff(gmail etc) it syncs great.

The only thing the iPhone has on it is the games, there are tons of apps in the marketplace but not very many high quality games.

I was thinking about it as my feature would transfer over with he hero but not the iPhone. Then at last min I was able to get all of my features on the iPhone so I went for that.
I am curious to see how durable the hero is though. I am a welder and very hard on phones (destroyed my lg 8500 in eight months) but have been carrying a touch for over a year and it does fine.
I played with a hero for about three hours when I was on the phone with detentions and various others. Really like how everything worked and it felt to be similar to the iPhone as far as speed go.

But how do you like the hero in your pocket with that chin on it? I'm leaning towards a magic mainly just because of that, it's just a bit smaller in the pocket. (didn't try it though)

The phone fits perfectly when the chin faces towards your leg it kinda wraps around ur leg, it fits rele well. I'm sure the magic would be even better but have no problem with he hero.

Loving my Hero as well (and I'm sure I'll like it even more when the phone part of it is activated -- long story and I won't bore you with it here). Seems quite responsive and snappy (at least on a WiFi connection).

I compared typing on the Hero vs. typing on my Wife's iPhone and I have to give the edge to the iPhone on that one. I found I made far more mistakes on the Android keyboard than I did on the iPhone's. But I'm sure that will improve with practise.

So far, I've been able to find an app for pretty much whatever I think of.

Only other downside that comes to mind is the serious dearth of cases/holsters for the Hero. I just can't find *anything* I like. I'll probably have to break down and install one of those silicone skins for now until I can find something else I like.

I really love my Hero . I am a horrible typer on a touchscreen but the predictive text helps a lot, and makes it completly useable.

No lag yet on the device, great gmail, great apps.

I agree with Croptop about the lack of cases, and add that I want a car kit, but can't seem to find one made specifically for the HERO.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, it's really helping me narrow down on my decision.

I guess the mail thing that's got me leaning towards the iPhone is that all my music/podcasts/etc are in iTunes, and I'm not sure how much I'll miss the seamless integration.

The gmail/google calendar simplicity on the Hero is very appealing though.

    Choices, choices!

Thanks for the replies, so is it true that all apps are free for Hero?

Also, how's the battery life? Is it noticeably better compared to iPhone's?

Ditto what everyone says here. Got mine on 2nd day, LOVE it so far. Coming from a WinMo Diamond and it just blows that phone away in every way. I have no problem with it in my pocket, it's actually a lot smaller than I thought.
Everything is free on the market, got some very cool apps, so far I like Tracks, that logs my running route with elevation, speed, and plots to google maps etc, very nice. Astrid is a great "To Do" program that sync's with Remember the Milk 'free' version, great for sync'd tasks everywhere I go.
Basically no lag that I can see, very smooth overall, that was one of my biggest concerns. Battery life seems very very good so far, definitely get 2 days or more with moderate use, not sure about full time wifi etc use. After I calibrated the keyboard I can type very well in landscape mode, but portrait mode is crappy to type on. Love the fact that I could dump Outlook / Active Sync, now everything is sync'd in the cloud with Google contacts and calendar entries. Love the dead easy mulitple calendar support, that was a big one for me also.
I highly highly recommend this phone, I never had an iphone but I've got an iPod touch, very glad I got the Hero.

According to Riley, Telus will have exclusive rights to it.

Awesome, you pretty much nailed much of my questions/concerns!

For your calendars - are you syncing with your Google Calendars (I assume so)? Dead simple? Any issues?
