    Review your straight talk experience

There are so many threads it's hard to keep track. I thought it might be a good idea to have 1 thread for reviews.

People that actually have bought and used straight talk please post in this thread and give your impressions of the service.

Please rate it on a scale of 1 (worst) to 10 (best).

I have used ST for about 10 days now. I do not care for the phone choices, I think they could do better. I also do not like that they do not have any demo phones out that you can experiment with, only inoperative dummies.
Thanks to this forum I avoided the Porting problem and just went for a new number.
So far I have had no problems with the service. I have not had it long enough to rate it a 10, but like I said no problems. I would recommend ST to friends. JIm

Network has been fine. No issues. Porting from US Cell took 7 days

Now for sending a phone back thats another story. Hated the Samsung Slider phone and sent it back. Buttons were too small and the camera button placement is the dumbest thing samsung could have done. I called ST and they said I could not return the phone for the reason I said...Then I read from the web page that the phone could be returned for any reason within 30 days. After that I spent 52 minutes on the phone while some foreign dude "DID" his thing. HE informed me that I had to call back when I sent the camera out so he could get a tracking number from me.

2 days later I called back. 37 minutes to DO their thing again...... MAKE SURE if you order a phone it's what you want.

Had service for three days, no problems there. Bought LG 290c because I thought at that price it would be a decent phone, will return it to Walmart today due to poor sound quality and missed calls due to phone ringer not working all the time. Any suggestions on which is the best phone regarding sound? At this point I don't care about web until they get a decent windows phone.

You should try the RAZR. I had one with At&t and it had excellent call quality.

Bought the 385 thru Walmart web site in August with in store pickup.
Activated via web page transferring Spring number.
Up and running 5-6 hours later, on the weekend by the way.
Auto renewal has worked fine for two renewals so far.
Wife loves the phone, only used as a phone nothing else.
Glad to dump Sprint and she never liked the RAZR so glad to get rid of it

I picked up the Samsung R451C's from FedEx today that I ordered for myself and my girlfriend. We activated our phones about 5 hours ago. Here's my review so far.

Reception - Excellent. I've been a Virgin Mobile customer for 3 or 4 years, and it's been hit or miss with reception depending on the phones. But with my new ST phone, I've had at least 4 bars everywhere.

Texts/Pictures - Very good. No problems so far. With VM, sometimes texts would take 20-30 minutes to send/receive to Verizon subscribers, but now those people get my texts right away and vice versa.

Calls - I haven't used it enough yet, but so far so good.

Camera - Pretty much the same as my VM Rumor2. Decent for a prepaid. However, I put my microSD card in the phone from my Rumor2, and it could not find any of the pictures from the previous phone. I probably have to reformat it or something.

Web - Normal. Kind of slow. I wish Opera Mini was able to be installed on it though

Overall Feel - I like it. The surface of the phone feels kinda cheap, but I love the rubber QWERTY keypad buttons, and it's very spacious.

Ringtone Volume - not so good. At it's loudest, you can't really hear it when you're in an environment of people or even a little noise.

Ringtones - boring, but luckily you can use Myxer and Phonezoo to get some for free

CUSTOMER SERVICE - as usual for prepaid(or almost any carrier), the CS is effing horrible. My girlfriend has a defective phone and she cant use web or get picture messages, and she fought with them for an hour on the phone and got hung up on once, and hung up on them once because she couldnt understand them.

I haven't tried the media player yet, but I'll check it out later.

Hope that helps some people that are interested

    CS issues

Have your GF get in touch with the legendary Elston. He is reputed to be able to part the Red Sea in terms of customer service issues.

Her Internet and pic messages work today, so now according to her, it is now a great phone

Now an update on calls, I just had one dropped, while having 4 bars. Not very happy with that. But oh well

Have had a basic cell phone with Trac for over 6 years. No mp3, pix, browser etc...

Going to give it a 9.5. the .5 is problems with the browser. And thats a minor item.

It meets all the specifications on plan and phone been looking for for almost 6 months.

    Nice items.
Can have Active wall paper. Yep. Use an Animated GIF as background.
Can send pix to a email account??? HUH??? O_O ( Not use to this )
Work over the area I cover. No drops at all! And its a big big area!
Can handle 16GB SDHC memory well.
My big fingers fit the QWERTY nicely!
Not as ugly as I though.
Camera good for a quicky shot.

    Weak Items
    Problem with browser.
Message about minutes on a call.
Non fitting wallpaper when you change from open to close or reversed.
Nice if had address city state in contacts.
Camera button in a weird place for me.
LCD look weird some times in open QWERTY mode.

The Weak Items are minor at best.

    I am enjoying the 451 a lot!

PS: Will know how well CS does. After 20 minutes they desired to send a replacement phone due to browser problem... So can't put in good/bad on this item right now.

Didn't buy it in a store, I take it. How was your ordering experience?
I want to play with the new T-Mobile MyTouch 4G.

The phone in those commercials seems pretty nice, too.

    Decent Phone

Have had the sch-r451c for 12 days now and my general impressions are as follows.

It's a decent phone though a little bulky, the camera button could be better placed. As for reception and service it beats my ATT phone hands down. The keyboard I find very easy to use.

I think my only real gripe with the phone is the total lack of a decent instant messenger (I use aim mainly) and even worse the inability to even install one or the Opera browser for that matter. However for the price and the unlimited talk and text it's not a real bad deal.

    Good Service, Nice Phone

I've had my Samsung R451C from Straight Talk for 13 days now.

Along with many others on this forum, I also feel the camera button is horribly placed. Aside from that, the phone itself is not cheap feeling, and does work well.

Call quality is excellent, and while I'm a bit disappointed in the browser's overall functionality, it was never a high priority for me. I can access Google Voice without problem, and it's quick enough for most tasks (weather checks, news headlines, etc).

Bluetooth works great, bound to my headset without issue.

Battery life is good, usually go 2 days without charging. Couple calls a day, a good number of text messages, some browsing, etc.

Media player is good for what it is, got a 4GiB flash card in it, works fine.

The ring volume could use a bit of help, though. The media player seems to be audible in my pocket, but the ringer seems to be quite a bit softer.

Got a couple truck driver friends who have told me that the $45/month price tag is simply unbelieveable for unlimited calling. Apparently, cell phones have replaced the CB Radio for them, so they're all interested in getting the Motorola V3a (one heck of a good phone).

I find it rather funny where they sell/don't sell the phones. I live about 1h15m north of Madison, WI. They don't sell these at the Wal-Mart near me, so I took the 20 minute drive to another Wal-Mart and picked one up. Activated it in minutes in the parking lot (EVDO via AllTel on a netbook, heh), and was talking on it shortly thereafter.

Overall, I'd say if you're already running Google Voice (or don't have to worry about porting a number), Straight Talk is THE service to switch to now.

    st samsung 451c

Been on straighttalk for about a week

Ported # from net10. Took about an hour. Was told by the website when registering the phone i already had an account. Weird. Whole activation took bout 4 hours, had to call CS to get it done.

Spoke to one guy is CS who sounded like he was in a subway tunnel. Could hear the guy down the hall taking a leak the headset was so loud.

Cam button sucks, ringtone volume sucks.
Been working with different encode settings to get a good ringtone. Seems if you strip down to mono at 24bit, give it a +6 Dcb boost in a good wav editior, you sometimes get ok playback, sometimes garbled crap.

Web didn't work, called on day 2 to resolve. Took CS about 10mins to fix it.

    Overall happy, about an 7
gonna buy another 1 or two for fam members.
