lol, thats nothing, I still have my Motorola 6000e. The screen is now is a beyond a joke but did the job back then. Unfortunately, it just stopped turning on which I'm guessing is the battery but never got a new one to check.
How does it feel using a 10 year old phone on a current network, against FCC regulation? Page Plus could end up with a big, fat fine for allowing you to activate it.
My Aunt is from the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" school. She STILL uses her Motorola Startac till this day and it works fine.
I saw my friend's aunt with one a couple of months ago. I have one, but verizon would not activate it (for the same E911 reason). I think I might stop by Page Plus tomorrow and see if they will activate it!

what firmware does it have? I actually activated my startac today on page plus and the phone lets me send and receive text messages. Im sure if you have the 7654 software or above it should work.
I remember having one of those. It was the coolest thing. Was the first phone I had the wireless web on. Web wouldn't do much back then other than weather and a few other things like that tho.
Nice!! Man I remember I thought it was so cool to use my dad's old Sprint flip phone. I already had a Nextel i730 so it definitely was already ancient, lol. I loved getting AIM and the mobile web to work on it. He had that phone for so long, it's kinda crazy. Now he's using a Centro, still with Sprint...might be lookin' into a Pre. The really crazy part is that I'm sure I'd have more phone playin' around with that old flip phone than I would with a Pre, just because I like getting old tech to do stuff, lol.
I have been using my StarTac 7868 for about five weeks now on PP. I surf the internet with reckless abandon on my DroidX while calling anyone I can think of on the StarTac. I am among friends so I will admit I have had a Verizon phone since 1998, and have owned the phone of the month, or whatever was newest since the StarTac 3000! I am really tickled to be able to talk on this 7868! Why is that? LOL! It does work with no issues, but I am happier with this old phone than my new Droid. If I see one more bag phone with a buy it now of $10 I would be tempted to get it, transplant whatever technology I can activate into it, and use that too. Where I am from if you had a StarTac in the day you definately stood out from the crowd. I mean, a holstered StarTac on your hip compared to the "cellular self defense units" on lanyards was quite a contrast. Before that, I had seen a man carrying a bag phone for the man talking on it. Anyone remember seeing something like that? LOL! We are fortunate to be able to still use these little slices of the past. There was a time that not everyone and their dog had a cell phone. Bottom line is it makes me happy to still be able to talk to whoever I want on what i think is my first "cool" phone..
After too much searching and asking lots of people questions I did buy a pair of StarTacs with the 7654 software. The other four I got are 6775 software. One of them only has 1331 on it's lifetime counter. Not a scratch on it. I am considering using it for it's case, but am so far hesitant to do so until I practice some more with the shabbiest Startac I have. I have detail stripped it once and it functions fine after reassembly. I really got bit hard by the bug to collect more phones now. I passed up several brick phones, and am hunting a Motorola Iridium 9500 currently. Easy to find, but real hard to locate the adapter for this handset that allows use on CDMA network. Anyway, who else loves the StarTac and is still using one?

I have an Iridium 9500. Just use that for occasional satellite calls. The cellular network adapters are extremely difficult to find (don't have any myself). They made them in CDMA/Analog, TDMA/Analog, GSM, and Iden flavors. On rare occasion you will see them at auction on ebay by themselves, or in a package deal with a 9500 handset. Because the adapters are very old, they do not have the newer frequency bands and I don't think have OTA update capabilities. But it would be fun to activate a CDMA cartridge on PagePlus...although it would be only on the 800 Mhz band, not the newer 1900 Mhz band. Might be a bit of a challenge to program (sort of like manually programming PagePlus into a Globalstar 1600 handset).
There is also an Iridium charger adapter that let you charge a StarTac off a desktop charger or the wall or car charger. My father used to have a StarTac many years ago through a local reseller that sold primarily to businesses and associations (may still be buried in the basement, but it's probably just an analog handset).
Found a list of Iridium 9500 accessories here that include some very rarely seen ones including the StarTac adapters and the cellular network adapters. http://www.donegal-holdings.com/motorola.htm
Sup? I run an authorized Page Plus dealership, and I activate these for people all the time. Apparently we are allowed to have a small percentage of accounts that are non-E911 capable. It is not illegal at all, you just don't get the "benefits" of E911 service. This is subject to change at any time, but for now you can do it. If you have one you want activated, just call me on my Startac 7868W at702) 379-4887 and I would be happy to activate it for you.
