How Can You Play AVI Videos on The Droid?

Is there an .avi video player for the Droid? The default player won't play my avi files.

I was trying to avoid doing that, but if there is no avi player then I guess it's my only option.

It may not be the solution you are looking for, but I installed ORB on my pc and AndORB on my Droid and I just stream my large library of .avi's to my Droid.

I just did it and they definitely need to work some things out but it seems pretty cool.

AVI is just a container format, which can have any number of different audio/video codecs contained within it. Most of the time you only see Divx or Xvid with MP3 audio, but there are literally dozens of options for both audio and video, making for a huge number of possible combinations.

So, if you went looking for say a media player that could play Xvid and MP3 codecs within an AVI container, you might have better luck tracking down something. But generally since AVI has so many possible codecs, that's why you don't see it supported on a lot of devices. Someone would have a video in an obscure codec that even the codec's author doesn't use, and then they would go around complaining about how it won't play this video, etc, etc. It's just not worth the hassle.

I feel silly, but I can't even get my droid to play mp4 files. Am I putting the files in the right place? I am just putting them in the folder where pictures go on the SD card. I can see the file, but when I hit play, I just get a blank screen.

It's an old motorola homesight system. They don't make them or support them any more, but I really like it.

It says MPEG-4. I thought that was supported by android... I don't know what I'm talking about though.
