Samsung Flight SGH-A79 USB drivers
I just bought Samsung Flight and tried to connect it with micro-usb connector. I can connect in mass storage mode, but when I try to connect in PC Studio mode, Windows xp cannot find the usb drivers for SGH-A797; it gives a ?
I tried loading the cd, but that is useless; even though it says it has usb drivers, all it has is flash file that links to the website- Samsung A-797 support , where there is no actual drivers, just a link to an older faq file, that doesn'twork.
anyone else have this phone yet?
PS- stupid samsung support thinks this is better handled with a phone call to them, which i disagree on.

the problem was that since I previously had a samsung phone, and the samsung web page didn't say anything differently, I had downloaded to use PC Studio 3. Ironically I needed to go to the Samsung Solstice support page and download the NEW PC Studio 1.2.1 (IH1) for PC connectivity.
once I launched this new PC Studio, I could access everything.
Did the PC Studio version you downloaded have support for MS Outlook contacts, calendar, memos/notes, and task list?
If yes, have you tried this on the Flight with success?
The Studio works for me, but I can't figure out how to use it to transfer games, and the TKFileExplorer can't seem to find a COM port so that I can do it that way. Anyone know how to do it? Thanks!
Poolskater - I've got the Flight and it syncs perfectly with Outlook calendar, notes, and To-Do list. I haven't tried to sync contacts, but I would assume that works too. I downloaded "New" PC Studio v1.2.1, under Solstice support on the Samsung site, like Dragon said. It recognizes the Flight immediately. You have to first sync PC Studio Scheduler with Outlook, THEN sync the phone with Scheduler. Its a little cumbersome in that you have to change the sync settings on the menu for the module you're syncing from "Outlook-Scheduler" back to "Scheduler-Flight", but everything works.
Ok, I give up trying to enable bluetooth syncing with my computer. I've tried PC Studio 3, the new one for the Solstice someone else mentioned earlier and Samsung's PIM file manager. The phone is paired in XP but the software won't recognize it. Never trying Samsung again, its SE all the way. :/
Solution A797 USB and phone driver problem Solution
Ok, ive had the A797 since thanksgiving and its connectivity problems have been pissing me off somthing fierce. but for everyone who cant get their phone to sync with Pc studio there are two things you need to know. both come from level 2 tech support. so in order of discovery:
firstly, the a797 is compatable with the New Pc studio v1.2.1 lH1. (now given the connectivity problem with USB it theoretically might work for both versions of pc studio because the program nor the computer will recognize the phone. right, sound familiar..)
so i explored the software bundle of NPS v1.2.1 lH1 . amoung a host of other driversets the install comes with, i found the Samsung USB cable driver , this in and of itself prompted me to call samsung again to ask about the USB cable, and it turns out rightly so.
So Secondly, and mind you this is from the mouth of samsung level two tech support not just somthing i surmised, Samsung's USB cables are now Proprietary. . he said so in those words. so this means that you cant use a generic Micro usb cable to connect your phone to the computer. You need an OEM data Cable Manufactured by samsung, apparently samsung microchips its Cables or somthing which is why they include a driver for them in the pc studio software bundle.
The kicker is that i havent tried it yet because niether Att, nor other retailers sell the Samsung data cable. you have to order it from samsung. and at present (1/12/10) it is backordered.
in my opinion the existance of a usb cable driver, and the lack of usb drivers from samsung for the phone, and the success of some others with USB connectivity points to a a simple common problem namely "having the proprietary cable or not". so the solution may just be to spend the 20 bucks and get the right cable, its annoying i know.
assuming the problem Everyone is having IS just this simple its pretty easy to get past. so lets start figuring out how to Get all this bloatware off the phone.. a debrand firmware upgrade would be lovely but we should take it one step at a time.
Loaded PC Studio for Flight--No Connection using ATT micro-USB Calbe
Then loaded PC Studio for Solstice--No Connection using USB
Then tried blue tooth, worked like a charm!
I have just Tested the NPS v1.2.1 lH1 with the proper samsung proprietary cable. and it works. now i would like to find some programs to overlay the NPS connection and remove the crap ATT software, pictures, sounds........
I just got the flight last week. I purchased a cable that I received today...so, if I understand this, you are telling me it will not work with the New Studio software?
So far, I've been able to connect the flight to my PC and it says that the Media Player works and the Mass Storage device....neither of which I'm concerned with. So, to get the flight to really connect to the PC will this USB cable do it?
I was able to get the new studio working on a WinXP machine (with the cheap USB cable I purchased), but not in Win7. Bummer. I wanted it on my laptop, but no go. The software seems to work, but I get an error when it tries to install the drivers. I even set the setup file to be Win XP compatible and run as admin.
Grateful to have found and followed the above advice... today received OEM usb cable from ebay... "New device detected... modem, etc." and my computer instantly recognizes Flight SGH-A797 in PC Studio!
NOW... How do I get it to function as 3G USB modem the same way I am using my Motorola as such right now? The Flight's USB settings options are "mass storage," "media player," and "PC Studio." Is the modem feature disabled in the firmware?
