Root/XDA only for HTC devices?

I'm sort of familiar with custom ROMs and played around with them when I use to have my HTC Touch (WinMo).

My question is, is rooting or the mods that come out of the XDA community only specific to HTC devices? Are there custom ROMs for other manufacturers like the Motorola Droid and eventually SEXperia X10? Or is it something unique that HTC allows for on their devices?

The XDA community is just for HTC products. The developers on that site also work with dumps from other companies but they are designed for the HTC devices.

As more non HTC android devices come out I'm sure other sites will become more prominent and you will see custom roms for those devices as well.

Root and roms are not unique to HTC, they currently just work on HTC devices.

give it time...its due to the fact for the longest time all you could get was HTC devices with android....
