Verizon Has Changed All The PN Offset Codes In Retained Markets Near Me
I believe this has something to do with the Alltel integration.
I went into Spartanburg County, looked on field test mode on my phone,
and it appears all of the Verizon towers there (Cell A side) have changed
their Cell IDs (PN offset codes, aka Pilot Numbers).
Now I have to re-learn the new codes for the Verizon sites.
This is annoying, it took me 2 years to learn and memorize the codes for the towers.
How is changing all the PN codes gonna help with integration?
Once in awhile, I'll see one tower, out of many, change it's PN numbers which identify it,
but now the whole Verizon network in the retained areas near me have changed their PN numbers.
This has all happened within the last few days.
The former Alltel sites still operate untouched on the Cellular B Side.
The Verizon towers in my County (cherokee County) haven't changed their PN codes
(as it is a divested area) and there will be no integration.
CDMA....Coming soon to a tower near you!
Alltel user since September 5, 2006 - I'm proud to still be with them !!!
They do that occasionally here in the metro areas and they did change a few towers pns in the rural areas when they added ev a few months ago.
I have most of them memorized in the rural areas too. Its useful for aiming a yagi in areas where im inside the access window of one site and outside the access window of a site that stronger and the phone wants to use the pilot/site it cant.
VZW has changed the p/n offsets here in Waterloo, IA, as well. The cell nearest me has been changed to a traditional 168 spacing between sectors, where it was 68 for the longest time. Some, but not all, of the cells in our little metro area have changed, so now I can't point in the general direction of my active cell. I was spoiled by the 7135 which displayed all of the offsets in the neighbor set. It won't be as easy to nail them all down, again!

Here the sectors on Verizon are spaced in 4's (124, 128, 132),
while Alltel's sites are spaced in 3's or 6's depending on the area.
So far I'm learning some of the new codes, but that'll take some time,
I have a long way to go, probably a few months, and lots of travel around the area.
Still not sure why the Verizon sites code's were changed & not the former Alltel sites.
If the Alltel sites are getting integrated together why change the codes at all, or ever?
Wouldn't the Verizon techs have had the codes memorized too before they were changed....
What are some of the reasons they would change a tower's PN codes
in the first place, other than to try and confuse people it seems...
