This is EXACTLY why I keep telling people to tell me everything up front! I'm not being an *******, I am just trying to help. Without the facts, I am left in a position where I just waste my time.

Go back to the stock ROM and it will work.
Please don't PM me about the Droid data settings. I've said all that I know, and I know all that I care about knowing. I'm not even looking to discover anything new.

    ok

I will try to load an xp box. Will it work on a vm?
I have VMware installed on my notebook, I can just make another partition.

Thank You TFJ for taking the time and your help with trying to resolve my problem.

The key here is that all Sholesmod roms after RC1 and Droidmod 1.0 have alterations to the USB functions that break DIAG mode. I have made the devs aware of this issue and they have promised to resolve it in their next release, so we'll see. Any other ROM should work as they are the only ones to have added the USB Gadgets in their kernel. If you like their ROM, just flash a different boot image and it will fix the problem and you can continue with the much more difficult task of getting the data authentication to stick.

I just tested mine on Windows 7 64bit with the 64bit Motorola USB driver and HW VSP version 3.1.0. And it connects fine. I can ping x.x.16.2 once HW VSP is connected. When I run ipconfig /all my results are the same as previously posted for the Motorola USB Networking Driver.

    HW VSP settings:

    Virtual Serial Port Tab:
    • COM: 3
    • IP: 192.168.16.2
    • Port: 11008
    • External NVT: Unchecked

    Settings Tab:
    • Connect to Device even if Virtual COM is closed: Checked
    • Strict Baudrate Emulation: Checked

*Everything else under the settings tab is unchecked.

kbman might be right about the roms and mods though.

Is right, but thanks for the confirmation that it works in Win7 under normal circumstances.

So where are we on the EVDO? I know it's pointless to ask except this thread has gotten a little side-tracked.

Well if it speeds up any progress...
I know it has already been said, but I had to confirm it for myself. There is NO file in the whole droid rom that has 'vzw3g' in hex or string. I extracted a rom and used a tool called xsearch to check.

If you split the Droid's SBF and open CG3 in a hex editor it's in there. I guess that means that CG3 is what writes the radio stuff, and that the radio is what does ALL the lower level connection stuff, separate from the actual Android OS. (confirmed when I asked a few skilled droid devs).

I strongly believe that if CG3 is properly hex edited and put back into an SBF and recalc'ed (checksum) and everything is done right, it should work. And if it doesn't, all you might lose is cellular radio and it might not even brick the phone (IF the files aren't too screwed and bytes are in their right places)... And if it does brick, I believe that flashing the original SBF back to the phone should bring it back to normal. A Droid dev I spoke with also believes the same thing, which makes me more confident in it.
Hell, people are putting their own boot screens in Droid SBF's.

There was a person on here that attempted this and posted about it a little but I'm too busy to look for it right now... I think he MAY have just hex edited the SBF without splitting it or something (I could easily be wrong about that though). He bricked his Droid with it.

I think I could probably make the proper SBF after a little more research. I'm just afraid to attempt because I just bought this Droid and it's my only one.
I have one other (safer) idea that I wanna try before I even consider doing the SBF on my Droid.

The battle probably isn't over once you see the 3G icon by your signal strength though. That means the connection itself is ok, but Cricket uses that proxy... I believe that part will be a whole lot easier to work out as it can probably be done low-level in the Android OS itself (maybe with iptables?).

Well that is some of what I know on the subject. I have one other idea that doesn't have anything to do with the SBF but I'm gonna keep it to myself for now until I try it.

Also, you can seem edit some of Droid using RadioComm, but even the EVDO seem changes don't stick... I'm pretty sure this definitely has to be done low-level

If I figure out a way to make it work, would you bigger guys get mad if I released it for free? Don't wanna make enemies here.

If you figure it out yourself, the only permission you need is your own.

Well said. If I paid kc720 for solution, which I wont cause I cant afford it , I would not share. If I find it on my own, I will share.

I have rooted and changed apns-conf.xml and pppd-ril.options. Not sure if I did the settings right but it didnt work. I really feel this has something to do with broadband hack, just havent landed it yet.

It might... I haven't even tried looking for a broadband hack :P I don't think it should be necessary. There HAS to be a way to edit the regular EVDO settings, but you're not gonna be anywhere in the OS. And for the proxy... it's IS linux so not impossible

If I were to get KC720's solution I would share it. Enough of this selfishness. Later on you will see that people will pick up these motives to charge people for things like Internet and MMS. Over here in Denver, KC720's is actually a cricket dealer called MillenniumTrenz and they are over posting in craigslist and bragging about the mms and wap solution for the Motorola Droid. It will be a domino effect when everyone will begin to charge for their findings, this is a community, (that is what it said when I signed up for Howard Forums)...

While I understand your frustration, you have to realize its supply and demand. He has something we want, so he sells it. If i was the first to figure it out, i would have just released it. But i understand why he does it, and dont look down on him for it. Besides, most of the time a solution leaks. And if it doesnt, the authors usually will release eventually.

For anyone trying to do some reverse engineering. I don't know anything about this subject but tom I'm getting my phone fully flashed to cricket. The guy told me that one of the setbacks is that wi fi will no longer work. hopefully that gives someone some sort of clue of what direction to go in

IMHO a "real" solution to getting EVDO to work on Cricket shouldn't break any other features. I mean, think about it, all you're inherently doing is making vzw3g.com say mycricket.net... that's text. Granted it is not as simple to change those settings at it should be but there's no reason I can see that it would break other features especially the WIFI. Sound's like a half-baked solution. Ugh, at this point I'd just like to go down to Motorola and thump someone's skull. Motorola is becoming almost as fascist as Apple. I'm also annoyed that the 2.1 OTA announcement was yet another false claim. ...Okay I'm done venting... for the moment.

I know how to do it, but I dont know linux enough.

Edit: XSYLUS, in the current solution they are not changing to @mycricket.com. Those settings still stick.
