    Sharp 920SH?

    Hey Folks,

I have have a chance to get hold of a nice Sharp 920SH for a good price (less then $300) but I am wondering if it is worth getting it.

First off I know that owning a keitai is all about exclusivity as apposed to functionality in some ways. The trade off of owning a Japanese phone is that it will not be able to surf the web and the later models will need CPR or have MM lockout.

I have gone through all the posts on HOFO regarding this phone over this weekend and understand that the best I can get regarding this phone is calls and SMS unless I send it away to get a repro.

Now what complicates this decision is that I snagged a new in box Vodafone version Sharp 904SH from a local Craigslist advert. I picked this phone up Saturday and after pealing the plastic off the phone and charging it up, placed my AT&T SIM and the cheap I-smartphone2009 sim hack into it and it works perfect. I have a good camera (not as good as my 903SH) but good enough, a screen that is jaw dropping color (It is an aquos) and everything works well (I don't know about the internet but I don't care about that as I have a computer at home (that is what I pay Verizon each month for ) )

I have owned a couple of Softbank phones with the MM lock and the constant repro query. Both are Panasonic phones and I have been able to live with this except that I am not able to change my ring tones while listening to them (I have to select the ringtone and then call myself to choose) also I can turn the answering machine with the Japanese voice on and hear it when I call the phone BUT I am not able to hear any messages left.

Is this a Panasonic thing that it is totally locked down or is this indicative to all current Softbank phones?

What would you do? On one hand the 920SH looks like it has a lovely screen and the phone with its rotating screen is sure to turn heads but on the other hand the screen goes to waste due to the MM lockdown. By contrast the 904SH is older but is almost fully unlocked (I don't care about the web access) and only cost me $120

I have liked the looks of the 920SH but never really thought about owning one because they always seem to go for $350-$700 on eBay.

Also do the 920SH have any problems or defects?

I was reading about a few folks with phones that had the ear piece break and that they had to use Blue Tooth or speaker phone. Is this a common problem?

    Thanks for your help

Never had problems with my 920.... except the hardware was slow. So I went up to the 923.

Can't say much about the 904 b/c I don't have but I do have a 903 and I still keep'em around and switch off from time to time if I get bored of the newer stuff.

    It's all good (^_^)

I dropped my 920SH into the toilet.. and it still works. Made in China one too. Quality is pretty good by my book if it survives a dunking

I don't know if it helps, but anyway...

I used my 920sh for the last 20 month. Due to a small incident (I peeled the Hypersim off, and can't get it on since then) I am stuck with my old 903sh. And basically: it is an upgrade. (except the screen, and the size)

I like the factor of owning a Phone which almost no one near me owns, however with the MM-Lock the 920sh is heavily degraded!

This is on a personal level: with my 903 I used to do a lot of pictures with the excellent camera, and now I am lead to think that with the 920sh I have missed a lot of good moments/memories. It isn't worth it...

The build quality is well on the 920sh. But: The microSD-cover has come off. Three dots on the surface have disappeared .

Thats too bad. Nobody in Switzerland does the softbank MM unlock? It becomes so much better with it. I dont think I could put up with it locked up again.

Nope, no one offers a MM-Unlock. At least I don't know of. However, there isn't a market for Japanes Phones in Switzerland.

My only bet for a MM-Unlock is eBay. But I don't know if I can trust those Unlocks. Is there any Unlock which has proven itself as reliable?

    Sorry for Thread-Hijacking.

For MM Unlock you need to send your phone to a location that does it. There's still several locations doing this service that I know of. But people don't like sending their phones around LOL.

I can suggest that you google around for the information as in another thread I do remember you insulting me and saying that all I do is spam and how I don't have any friends and what not. Below is a link to the exact post of what you did.

Doesn't it feel strange to insult someone and then come back asking for their help???? I mean... if someone insulted you and then comes back asking for your help, would you even help them??? Put yourself in that situation.

Ah the sweet taste of revenge. If you cooked up some sort of formal apology I may think about helping you. But as soon as I saw your questions I seriously laughed hysterically.

    ------------------------------------------------------------

For everyone else that's too lazy to go to that other link; I've conveniently re-quoted and bolded that part that chieco said that was a very bad move in today's current situation

hiallall offered me or asked me about it and thats it. But IonNuke has to give his comment about everything and Spam again! IonNuke don't you have friends? Why are you always Spam in every single thread go offtopic and talk about your personal stuff? In this Board are many threads with pages full just about your personal stuff that has nothing to do with the thread or the question thats been asked there.

^^^ Saying that I don't have friends and again you need my help. OH THE IRONY!!!!

Gee you really take this personally how sad

Did you wait for this moment? you seem really happy that you could get your little "revenge" making all this effort so everyone knows what a ******* i am by telling the truth you are sometimes helpful but most of the time you just spam and im not the only one who thinks this way many people sent me a pm saying how glad they are that someone finally speaks up to you.

I created this special opportunity only for you so you can explain everything that you couldn't last time so you can sleep at night again but you messed up again. Well i guess you'll have to wait until you get you're revenge

Spam is great. It adds to the fun of a whole idea behind a discussion board. I'm sure everyone complains to you about me spamming. I dunno if I can believe that but really who cares, it's a discussion board to talk about stuff.

And your previous question has actually been answered in many threads already. If you would do some research and search you wouldn't have to ask a repeated question. I chose not to answer the question is actually for the sake of the next bloke; in case they do a search about multimedia unlocking, they will get search results, but one less than this one. Well more for the next topic I wanted to point out.

There's a general rule of thumb..... "treat others the way you want to be treated".... <<< ever heard of that???

oh by the way, the several topics you bring up is even more irrelevant than before. It's quite humorous if you asked me.

Well it's not really my problem to judge people. We're all different and grew up differently. Unfortunately I grew up in a bad neighborhood and we just don't take crap from anyone. If we did then people will walk all over you. It's one of those survival of the fittest situations where even the law will not save you. And if you don't understand by now I can't really explain it anymore. Well then again I can explain it in Chinese but this forum requires everything to be in English so that kills off that idea.

Hahaha~~~ You know aw?? you shouldn't have said that, if he's reading he might come back and attack you with some insult and if you get mad he'll say "r u serious.. you got mad at that??"

But before he attacks you, I guess I'll have the liberty of doing that since I'm already getting attacked. Uhhh Uhhh~~~ What have you contributed??? (-_-")

    ah! revived again!!!

But really, its NOT that hard. It like he's posted the MM unlock thingy at least 20 times this year with the picture of everything required. And part two of maintaining it is right up the corner too.....

Ionnuke's not disturbed, he's just enjoying his sleep.
