Hey guys, searched the forums, but found nothing on this. Found a possible issue with my Droid. When I make a call, and put the phone to my face, the proximity sensor works as it should and blanks out the screen, but when I pull the phone away from my ear, although the screen comes alive, instead of seeing the call app with the numpad/end call/speaker buttons, I first see the unlock pattern screen come up, and then once I unlock it, the call app shows up. Is there any way to disable the lock pattern while on a call? It is fairly frustrating to have to put in an unlock pattern every time I am trying to end a call or navigate through an automatic menu. Any suggestions, or has anyone else seen this problem?

Found a workaround by using KeepScreen for the moment, still think this should be patched tho...
I picked up a Droid for my wife this week and it's doing the same thing, I believe it's a problem with the proximity sensor. I've had mine for a week, never seen it happen. I'm going to swap her's out, you may want to do the same.

try the widget screenmode. it will allow screen to go dark without requiring password.
no matter the limitations of a phone there's a program to get around it.
It's not a limitation, it's broken, it's not supposed to behave that way.
A problem with the proximity sensor? I thought all the sensor did was tell the phone to light up the screen if you took it off your ear, it controls the locking screen as well? Either way, this is an annoying issue, I may return it, let me know if your wife's problem is fixed by this...
I did figure out a way to fool the proximity sensor quite by accident. On my phone, I never had a problem with the phone not coming back on after I complete my call and removing the phone from the side of my face. However, the other day I did. I got onto a call when I was in one room of my house (it was night and the lights in the room was on). I was walking around the house while on the call and was inside a dark room (no lights were on) when I completed my call and lowered the phone. Since the room was dark, the phone really couldn't detect the difference in light so the screen stayed dark.
I did a hard reset on her's tonight, she's been having some other flakiness with the home screen locking now also. Gonna give it a day and see what happens, if it still behaves the same way I'll exchange it. We've only had this phone 2 days now, mine I've had a little over a week and I've yet to experience this problem with it.Originally Posted by NoHesitation
You're right though, it shouldn't be the sensor itself, sounds more like a bug that the dialer isn't keeping the phone from locking while it's in use...
