Hero and email trouble, help please

Hey guys, I just upgraded to the Hero today from a BlackBerry. So far I love it ! Here is the problem:
I am tying to set up my email, the same email I had set-up on my BB, on my Hero. Here is the path I am taking; tap mail icon>tap other> type in my email address and enter the same thing for my username> type in the password and tap next> I then get a message that says unable to communicate with server. Any ideas what I need to do to correct this ?
The email I am trying to set up is my univeristy email. xxxxx@unm.edu

It looks like the automated account detection isn't configured to work with your particular provider. But no worries! When you create a new account there is a button that says "Manual setup". Select that, and use the settings on this web page to configure your account:

http://it.unm.edu/email/smtp.html

Then you should be all set.
