I've got family in Nelson, Prince George and Victoria, I live in Vancouver. I use a few SMS messages, but mostly talk. I also don't have home internet, so I'd be using data for my computer as well. It doesn't get any better than $35 each. 500MB isn't really enough unless you've got a BlackBerry, and 200 minutes is OK, but I go over that, plus LD. I also don't really care about VoiceMail, but I do care about Caller ID.
You might have someone whose specific usage is better covered with one of the incumbents, but there isn't really much that you can do that's better.
Data add on starts at $25 for 500MB, $10 more for unlimited keeps it competetive. You go up to $30 for 1GB, $45 for 2GB. I had the $30 6GB add on, I passed that plan off to someone else, I'd much rather have $35 unlimited.
You also have at the $15 range actually including CID and 100 minutes, compared to 50 minutes and no CID with other carriers. Hell, I might even be able to do with the $15 Chat plan and $35 Infinite Internet and pay occasional overages.
I'm willing to bet, my specifications cover a hell of lot more users than your specifications do, and that is the issue. I have already stated these are soem solid plans for very heavy users and very light users but the people in the middle get boned, especially when it comes to text messaging. 500mb of data is enough for most people when they aren't tethering. In a non tethering month I do about 400mb's of data and that include a fair amount of page views. This month I did do 4 gigs of data but that was because I was tethering. Over, $35 for unlimited is dynamite but the issue is it's not what the average user needs nor wants. It same as the other guys. So 90% of the people with data plans use 500mb. What does it matter if they pay Rogers $30 for a gig of data, for 6 gigs of data or $35 for unlimited data to Wind.
However my largest gripe is with moderate users price points. Nothing starts below $35 and that only includes 50 out going texts, then you get charged $0.10 a text after that. Seriously, this is the revolution we were so excited about?
How many high school kids do you think are going to want to go out and pay $45 to start just to get a phone they can text on?
I think that Wind is launching with the perfect plans for doing damage to the Big 3. These plans will steal all their high ARPU clients that have $150-$300+ monthly bills. Corporate customers, realtors, sales reps....basically all the power users. This will leave the Big 3 with all the customers with low-value plans, cheap retention plans or those in rural areas that are expensive to service, leading to lower profit margins. These plans are designed to pick all the low hanging fruit, a perfect strategy for a profitable start.
That's a good point.
I was thinking another way to do something like that, particularly for internet, would be to offer $1/GB, so you'd have really low usage users paying $2-$3/month, and everyone would switch in droves, so they wouldn't be getting $30/month customers using 500mb anymore and would just have the $60/month ones using 200gb/month.
The $15 chat plan does something similar. There are customers who want the cheapest plan possible and don't use any minutes, just like 5-10 per month, so they get to knock out all the low usage users who are paying $15-$22/month that's essentially free money to the carriers.
Please don't PM me asking questions that could very easily be asked publicly.
Band I/1 = IMT, 2100 (rarely wrongly referred to as 1900/2100)
Band II/2 = PCS, 1900 (never wrongly referred to as 1800/1900)
Band III/3 = DCS, 1800 (never wrongly referred to as 1700/1800)
Band IV/4 = AWS, 1700 (often wrongly referred to as 1700/2100)
Band V/5 = CLR, 850
Band VIII/8 = GSM, 900

I think $1/GB is rather low, but $5/GB would certainly be sweet and would match what Rogers has to offer. It would be even better if Wind were to cap it at a max of $35 for data.
edit: and by match what Rogers has offered I of course mean 6GB for $30

ive had the plans info i think for about 2 months now. I was holding out because i didnt want to give the big 3 an advantage. i didnt think they deserved a chance to respond the way they have been ripping people off. a little disappointed they are posted but i really hope WIND sticks it to telus and rogers. Bell is better than them both right now.
Caller id & Voice Mail with Fido is not $7 it is $10. so its $25 + $10 = $35 or with wind for $10 more you can get unlimited calling nationwide and unlimited Text messaging and Caller it & voice mail is INCD free of charge.
Can everyone on here stop responding to post where people are claiming their retention plan is better. They just don't get it. They are comparing something that in most cases they had to beg or threaten to leave in order to get it versus something avaiable to everyone. Just don't repond to those post they are comparing apples to watermelon not even oranges
I would like to clarify that what ovifan mentioned is NOT a retention plan. Please check before making statements as such, it is part of Fido's new (as of fall 2008) plans.
I am also in the same boat as you, slightly upset over people who compare Wind's plans with their retention plans, but as far as I know, ovifan's plan is NOT part of retentions.
I'm willing to bet, my specifications cover a hell of lot more users than your specifications do, and that is the issue.
Not really, first of all, CID is the most wanted add on, which is why Telus charges $15 for it and gives VoiceMail 3 for free. CID included is $6-$15 more on other carriers. That covers a lot of people. Also, just looking at Vancouver, Abbotsford is a long distance call, so is Whistler. There are also a ton of people in GTA getting screwed by the new smaller LCA. Having the LCA include the whole province is a big boon for people too.
Just looking at voice plans, the $35 with CID included is cheaper than any of the Big 3 can offer with CID included, and includes more usage than any plan they have to offer - period. Cheapest you can get on Koodo with CID is $21. Not much better for Virgin or Fido ($20 at best). The plans start getting decent at $25, particularly with Virgin having CID and VM included at $25+, but otherwise you're still looking at $32-$35 just for CID. So either way, with the most common thing people add - CID, you're at most paying $5 more and getting unlimited usage. Most people will take that, also just out of principle so they're not being dicked.
I have already stated these are soem solid plans for very heavy users and very light users but the people in the middle get boned, especially when it comes to text messaging.
Text messaging I'm sure will come as an add on, no way they won't offer unlimited Text Messaging. $5 is most likely, but you won't be paying any higher than $10 to get it added on. Also, with 10c/minute overages, mid range users are covered well. Only Mike and Virgin offer something remotely competetive for midrange users.
500mb of data is enough for most people when they aren't tethering.
I disagree, it's enough for almost everyone on a BlackBerry, but 500MB is just short of what's enough - if being careful it's easy to stay under 1GB, but going over 500MB isn't that hard. If you're talking about the SimplyConnect $50 for 150 minutes, unlimited e/w and 1GB then it's a good deal. 500MB is just low enough that you're likely to hit overages.

Unlimited data means you can ditch your home internet. That's at least $20/month that you're paying, and you get just 2GB with that, unless it's some special deal, but you can't even hit truly unlimited for $35 with home internet. That makes things a quite a bit better deal.
However my largest gripe is with moderate users price points. Nothing starts below $35 and that only includes 50 out going texts, then you get charged $0.10 a text after that. Seriously, this is the revolution we were so excited about?
No contracts, no paying extra for Caller ID, unlimited talk time, more reasonable local calling areas. Unlimited texters are already well covered with existing carriers anyway, getting it for $10 on prepaid, and $20 with Koodo, the revolution is needed for people who talk a lot, not for people who text a lot. The revolution is also needed for people who use lots of data.
How many high school kids do you think are going to want to go out and pay $45 to start just to get a phone they can text on?
They won't be able to get a Wind plan anyway, they're too young. They're either having parents pay for it, or they're going on prepaid. Also, the main reason high school kids do so much texting is because it's cheap, if they're only paying $35 for unlimited talk time (or even $15 with unlimited W2W), they won't have to bother with texting.
well i rather pay $35 unlimited without contract than 6gb $30 with 2 year contract.
PS please dont compare whatever plans wind comesout with against retention plans from rogers because not everyone can get them. Compare wind plans to the plans posted on fido and rogers websites give wind a chance to offer better prices after they have some profits comming in.

They're launching tomorrow in TO and CG. That's not enough of a head start for them to work with anything. So you're saying these plans are legit/close to what is being offered?
Lol, if WIND lets you tether, and becomes a way of "replacing home internet" they re going to go bankrupt. People are saying they want to rack up insane amounts of usage.
